So Pagnotta found out they are negotiating. I welcome the news, but it isn't exactly going out on a limb that the Flames are starting to work harder on getting that deal done now that everyone is back.

Last piece of the puzzle outside of the andersson soap opera. Be awesome to package that one up too before TC. But I think Andersson will be a trade deadline move.

Yeah, I should have made that more logical. To me it's a big number either way, but it is the monetary value of the figure that is significantly different, especially comparing 1990 to 2025.
I do love the GIF though, that jogged my memory for sure. I remember an era where I felt I'd better be a good kid to keep the mean/angry shadows from coming to get me at some point

I was just bugging you.
There are always mean angry shadows. No matter what you do.
So do what you want!

This gets done amiably I think.
Now, the next looming PANIC BUTTON is a Wolf extension...

Depends when the Wolf contract gets done. Might still be a piece of the puzzle.

Zary flew under the radar as a prospect because of his injury. Still think he’s underrated

I could see Zary’s argument for wanting AAV closer to Rossi. If he was given the same opportunities and was given a long run at centre and got to play a powerplay with someone like Kaprisov, his numbers are probably even closer to Rossi.

Rossi has the draft pedigree + durability + top-6 production.
Zary is lacking on all those fronts and shouldn't be aiming/asking for Rossi $

Which means he’s either extended at 26 or traded for a haul before then.

Let Dave Lowry handle it. He's the math wiz, right?

You can't use the "if I was handed this kind of icetime, then I could do what this guy is doing" argument.
Zary has to earn the playing time and create that opportunity for himself.
No way is Rossi a comparable.

I think Rossi is a comparable as they are similar age, RFA status and position (maybe). But that just means is Zary's value 80% ($4m) or 75% ($3.75m) or what ever.

I always thought Mangiapane was a good comparable.
Mangiapane signed for 2 x $2.425M in 2020. That prorates to $2.84M x 2.
Mangiapane was coming off a 17G, 32P season in 68GP.
Zary just put up 13G, 27P in 54GP this year, and 14G, 34P in 63GP the year before.
That's why I was guesstimating something in the $2.75-3.25M range x 2 years. Adding the extra year is probably worth an extra million, so $3.75-$4.25M x 3 makes a lot of sense.
