However, I would expect the richest deal since the salary cap was instituted. it could really build a future contender on Edmonton, and I definitely don't want that.
So here's hoping he just drags it out this year, and walks away in the off-season.

I don't agree with this. McDavid is a very special player and what he brings is irreplaceable. He drags a sub-par team through the playoffs every year. Whatever the Oilers get for McDavid will make the team worse. In the playoffs containing a bunch of lesser parts is much easier than containing McDavid himself. McDavid's combination of speed and skill means that no matter what is thrown at him, he'll find a way to score....well maybe with exception of what the Panthers threw at him.

Goaltending is suspect for both.

I agree. If the Leafs could find a way to add McDavid and then upgrade their top 4 d, they'd be a very difficult team to deal with. McDavid's problem, if he is asking for league max, is that very few contenders would be able to take that on, and then the team that does would have limited options in terms of upgrading.
Not too dissimilar from the problem in Edmonton, with McDavid, Draitsaitl, Bouchard and Nurse all signed for a potential $55ish million, there's not a lot of room to make upgrades elsewhere.

BORING off-season
But maybe thats a good change of pace, especially in the midst of a rebuild.
Brad used the draft and off-season to try to expedite our path to contention and we know how that turned out.
Connie letting this crop of youth slow cook might be the way to go.
But please trade Andersson before the season starts.

That's what I'm hoping for too so karma can pay the Oilers fans who mocked the Flames for losing Gaudreau a visit.

You complain so often about people being mean to you and then you call so many posters names. If I called you a muppet you would be sending a complaint to the mods so quickly. I don't care if you stay or leave. I merely pointed out you went from 100% he's leaving, to he might not. That's it. I even said he may sign with the Leafs. I have absolutely no idea or insight to his mindset, besides what I read from the media, and what he says. I have never made a prediction to his next contract, because I don't have any information on it.
Does it make you feel tough to call me a muppet? What part of my post was juvenile? Do you really want to get into the quality of someone's life?

When did you ever expose me for a fraud? Like, in what instance or scenario? I don't have a grudge against you. I do find your stories comical.

Agreed. There's no replacing him as a player. Hate the Oilers, he's the best I've ever seen. Back-to-back finals almost solely on his back.
If there's a day he parts ways either via trade or free agency, it's a day we'll be celebrating because we've somehow escaped this era without our biggest rivals bringing home a cup.

It does kind of blow me away that a Long time poster can speak to people like this with no action from the mods.
It feels very common to get a ride response from this poster lately, and it is directed all over.

I respond to posters the way they respond to me. If they engage in meaningful conversation and are not wasting the board's time with troll posts then they get a proper response. If the rules were enforced as written in the guidelines nobody would be happier than me and I would not engage but they are not and in the past when I point out that they are not I get the trolls pointing out that I am "whining to the mods again". squiggs knows what he is doing, he posts nothing on here unless it's to either try and bait me or to update the snake graph. There are more than a few posters here that used that time proven tradition of pecking away at a poster until he finally snaps and defends himself only to catch a sin bin or a suspension. They get banned themselves when they inw Italy cross the line and then magically reappear under a new handle. VPN's are a great thing aren't they? Anyhow this has gone far enough off topic. He baited the hook and I swallowed it while because I am having an extremely bad fn day. Good job. Back on topic time.

From the moment McDavid was drafted, we all feared the inevitable cup he would win. If he wins that cup after leaving Edmonton, Flames fans have dodged a major bullet. If he doesn't win a cup, he'd be the best player ever not to have won one.
Beyond McDavid, you've got players, who never won a cup, like Dionne, Iginla, Bure, Lindros etc..but McDavid is on another level and even Lindros and Bure were cut short by injuries.

I am looking forward to McDavid getting 100 points and moving up to 18th all time for career points without a cup. Only 689 behind Marcel Dionne.

Calm down man. Count to ten before you reply to people, or start smoking pot or get laid. Or all of the above.
You get too worked up over this site at times. Take a breath. You’re going to make yourself sick.
