Wow, surprised about this one. Very happy for Ryan, but as others said, Flames broadcast team has been poached recently quite hard. Always loved how Ryan had a pulse for the team and players. He has great personal relationships with the players. Best team host we've had in decades. I'll bet this is Treliving's fault.
i wish him well. He did a great job here in Calgary, and helped make broadcasts more entertaining. I also appreciated his insights into many players off the ice as well, when he would often share some of his interactions. For instance, I loved how he kept in touch with Gaudreau, and Gaudreau would send him some words that he would need to work-into some interview on air. Leslie is definitely one of a kind. I don't begrudge someone for moving ahead in their careers, especially when it coincides with getting to move back home. He will be missed. It is just a shame I can't stand the Leafs.
I’ve heard from someone in broadcasting that Brendan Parker will be taking over for Ryan Leslie. Lots of smoke around Scott Oake retiring and KB is taking over for him on After Hours
This actually makes a lot of sense.

Didn't know anything about him personally, didn't realize he was from the East. Someone made an earlier point about hiring more local talent. For some of these roles like studio host, that makes sense. Then again, the goat Peter Maher was Leafs PBP before moving to Calgary.
Not only more Francis, but now a more unchecked Francis. Leslie was really good at corralling Francis' opinions, and balancing them with good rebuttals. An uncaged, free-reigning Francis is a nightmare.

kb?
Edit: I see, Bukauskas.

I don't see Francis going after players as much anymore. I think he has good insight, and he'll always try to have a different angle.
He has softened somewhat, and I think more so, he is cruising towards retirement anyway.
I don't mind Francis as much as a lot of people. I did hate a lot of his negative nelly stories especially several years back, but his on-air stuff seems fine to me.
Leslie though, is definitely one of the best.

I’m surprised Bahl made the switch to media after signing the new contract..
I guess we'll see who they come up with ... Boomer? Brendan Parker? Natasha Staniszewski? All would be good with me... a fresh face maybe?
I wouldn't say that I have done a 180 on Francis, but I think he is vastly improved in professionalism. I don't read his articles, so perhaps I just missed them, but from what is posted on here, I haven't seen much of what made me hate him as a journalist. He was a great example of where journalism overall was headed - fake news, clickbait-oriented articles that dumbed people down more than enlightened. That's my opinion anyway. I haven't seen much - if any - of that for a while, so I find myself not hating him any longer.
It is the same thing with Dreger. I think he was the only guy I hated on at TSN, but now I find him likable and rather reliable now. Lebrun is still ahead of him for me, and of course he is yards back from where McKenzie was at any time in McKenzie's career.
I like Parker, and it certainly looked like the Flames were doing a great job grooming him for something. I expect he will fit in very well. I wonder who takes over for Parker? If I had a say, I would offer Cami Kepke the job. I have no idea what else she is doing, but I she is one of the best 'voices for the game' (don't how how else to say it). Some of the ex women's players just don't have the voice or cadence that I enjoy listening to (and I am not taking any shots at anyone - I was actually always generally supportive of Cassie Campbell, for instance), and remind me of having to sit through Rob Kerr broadcasts. I think Cami has a great voice, and she is great verbally (doesn't make mistakes, forms opinions and thoughts quickly without saying 'uhh' or being repetitive, etc) and seems very knowledgeable. She is the kind of personality that the Flames should be targeting, in my opinion. I wonder who else would be a great replacement for Parker to start grooming for when Parker gets poached by another team?

Natasha Staniszewski is already doing Flames TV as Parker's backup - unless she leaves for something else, I would expect her to take his spot. Cami would be great though
Parker has gone through the same career path as Leslie and has paid his dues, I'd be surprised he wasn't the replacement - it's probably what Leslie would want
