All I can get

The Rico Fata Award!
Name the biggest surprise Flames player waived to start the season, and will someone claim him, and if so who?
I say Daniil Miromanov and that he clears.

I think there are a few candidates.
Kirkland, Solovyov, Cooley, and Kerins.
I am not saying they would be claimed, just that there would be a chance.
FWIW, last year the following players were claimed off of waivers just before the season started:
Schwindt
Lavoie
Ian Mitchell
Kahkonen
Patera
Reimer
Ludvig
While most players clear and it is fairly low risk to put a player on waivers just before the season starts, there are always a few that get claimed unexpectedly.

There should be an award for that. Any players receiving more than two votes are out of the running.

I can’t imagine Cotsco getting the boot. I think he has tradable value, plus he’s such an awesome dude and he just re-signed.
This is kind of a weird time. Usually I can think of at least one guy I’d want to see cut, but not this time. I don’t even mind Bean as much as others do.
Edit: Even more weird is this would typically be a thread where I’d say something dumb like “Huberdeau” but I don’t even mind him these days. It’s not like his salary is in the way anymore, and as long as he keeps reinventing himself into a tougher non-perimeter player, I actually want him on the team. It also helps that he’s handled everything as well as he has and seems like a really genuine guy.

He's a nice story, but Kirkland a long way from having any actual trade value imo.

I get the feeling Kerins is going to go on waivers. I hope he doesn't. If he does he will get claimed by either PIT, or TBL.
I could also see Pachal being a surprise waiver. Huska didn't seem like a huge fan of his down the stretch. With him being a healthy scratch for 6 games in March. Pretty sure he would get claimed as well.

He turned himself from a fancy guy into a power forward last year. Full respect for that.

Not sure why Huska seemed to chooss Bean over Pachal. I love Pachal. Seems like a tough hombre.

Bean getting more games down the stretch probably had something to do with Bean still being somewhat of a higher potential reclamation project.
If the coaching staff can work magic to get Bean back to where he was before his shoulder and groin injuries in 2023, they potentially have a puck moving dman that can play both sides and fit into the #4/5 slot on the back-end. Whereas, nothing about Pachal's game suggests that he'll be more than a reliable, physical bottom pairing dman.
I'm not saying it's right thing to do for Huska to have played Bean more than Pachal during the stretch, but I can see why they'd give Bean a little more leeway to try and "find his game"
