And the teams success last year I think has created a false impression of where they actually are. The team was lead by aging vets for one but it also could have been a one off season. If they're unwilling to take a few steps back before going forward I honestly see them heading straight back to a bubble team who occasionally gets bounced round one. And thats if a few prospects actually pan out because the vets won't be here that much longer.

Well if that is where they are heading no point in sticking around right? Right?

Flames never really have a plan, that or they don’t stick to it, because for every 4 correct things they do (big or small) they will always do or try to do one really bad thing.
Even CC had his near miss, trying to sign Elias and Noah. That mistake failed because the other party backed out, not because of some realization on CC’s part.
This team will always be mid, and will never figure it out, and we just have to be happy with that. It’s better than no hockey team.

Trying to sign Elias is the near miss - but also I think setting his price and not being willing to budge on that is good asset management still. Lindholm pretty much commented that he knew he was going to get dealt from training camp, so don't think it was as close as rumours made it seem.
Signing Hanifin would have been fine...at this point I'd still rather have Hanifin than the return they got from Vegas for him.

And on top of that, signing players seems to be a totally ignored method of asset management and instead is somehow viewed as turning them into untradeable assets, which they aren’t.
The whole narrative around Lindholm especially is bizarre as it’s one of his better moves. Suggesting he only avoided disaster thanks to Lindholm when Conroy is the one who traded Lindholm well ahead of the deadline doesn’t track at all.

Needless to say, some work left to do on their rebuild/retool efforts.

I wouldn't get too worked up about where Pronman has the Flames ranked. He's always been a bit of Flames hater. Now if this was Scott Wheeler's rankings, I'd be a bit more concerned.

Of the group that got purged Hanifin was the one player I hoped they had signed.

I've heard some rumours that Ryan Leslie might have some news in regards to his own career, so might be that and not a trade rumour.

Ontario boy goes home - where have we seen this before? Jermaine Franklin, Jim Van Horne. Get a name here and off you go.
Wish more local talent was hired - don't get itchy feet and want to go back home (why anyone would want to go back to Ontario is beyond me).
Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Yeah, why would anyone want to go to the biggest city in Canada, where the media industry is largest, and work for the richest Canadian team (and one of the richest teams period).

For a guy that was once canned by Sportsnet, he's made a great comeback. Happy for him but yeah, this sucks for us.
(Edit - I thought he was off to work games for SN in Toronto, but I guess this is just in house host?)
