Selling #### on FBMarketplace is awful, and I had a sealed PS5 controller I bought for dirt cheap at The Source when they were being flipped over to Mini Best Buys that I decided I didn't need, so I was selling it for cost along with an accessory.

My god, every day for a month: lowballs, no shows, scam attempts, general tire kickers and time wasters. Last night at about midnight some guy messaged me, I vetted him briefly, saw he was selling Stamps tickets, so he must be local. 12pm today, meetup time comes, and he suddenly wants to send an e-transfer, I said no. 1pm, asked me where the nearest ATM to my house is, and and my spider-senses were tingling, I was getting a bit short and I told him. He asked again about an e-transfer, and I said no, but kept expecting a suspicious URL to arrive.

Now it's 3:45pm and I'm looking at his FB profile and notice every single Facebook friend is from Venezuela. At this point I'm mad at myself, ready to block him, and write off Facebook for the final time.

Then I get a message at 4:30pm: "I'm here" and my doorbell cams aren't picking anybody up, but I see a guy way down the street walking toward me. Turns out he was from Venezuela, moved here like two weeks ago, his wife got him a PS5 for his birthday today, and he spend two hours travelling from the deep SW to me (innercity NW).

The worst part was he was a super nice guy, who was--randomly--super excited about Rib Fest and asked me if I was going (never heard of it). So I feel like a total dick for making him jump through all these hoops and for being a bit short. Part of me wanted to give him a ride home, but we're going out tonight.

Ha, that's a great story.

I actually sold 2 things on Kijiji last week that went great after I ignored a couple lowballers. Marshall amp to an older guy who was a bigtime collector and a DeWalt mitre saw, guy paid what I asked with no BS, showed up on time.

I still can't bring myself to list anything on Facebook Marketplace, grosses me out.

At least you come by it honestly. I've got "How It's Done (Done, Done)" stuck in my head, because everyone who makes a reel these days needs to background track it.

Social media accounts using the same 12 songs for soundtracks when there are thousands of artists and millions of songs available to them (that could use the exposure) is a minor gear grinder for me.

How bland are these creators when they can't think of a song that better conveys the mood of their post than that one that's been recycled millions of times.

Are all these kids' playlists just Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Post Malone?

Why are so many kids’ social media accounts on your algorithm?

I assume they use popular songs because they’re popular and that’s what most kids listen to.

I played Bullet With Butterfly Wings in the car and my girlfriend told me she'd never heard it before and had no idea what the song was.

I showed up for my tour of the House of Commons yesterday. I was a day late on my booking. I was with my family and will never hear the end of this.

That is well deserved ribbing that you will get on every future vacation and booking.

Also on every mention of the house of commons, Ottawa, or politics in general.

When I was at CJSW there were many in their 20s that never heard a Prince song, and these are the biggest music nerds in the City.

One of my younger engineers is a huge country fan from rural Alberta. We touring the field for 6 hours and chatting. He said “have you heard of that Downey band or something like that”?

Who

The Tragically Hip? He’s like 27 and didn’t know who the hip was. They have that wheat kings song. I looked at him as said “are you a fataing Hutterite”

I think we are supposed to be hopeful that children represent our future. This is not hopeful.

This music complaining is the equivalent of old people in the 90s griping about kids not knowing the Turtles discography.

Or could just be summed up with the Principal Skinner meme.

Feel this.

Stolen Focus by Johann Hari is a fascinating read on the subject.

Quote:
In the United States, teenagers can focus on one task for only sixty-five seconds at a time, and office workers average only three minutes. Like so many of us, Johann Hari was finding that constantly switching from device to device and tab to tab was a diminishing and depressing way to live. He tried all sorts of self-help solutions--even abandoning his phone for three months--but nothing seemed to work. So Hari went on an epic journey across the world to interview the leading experts on human attention--and he discovered that everything we think we know about this crisis is wrong.

I actually don’t care for them either, just shocked they were a mystery band. How have you not heard them 17 trillion times in this country.

That is true. They’re so overhyped and overrated that they get radio played to death.
