Agreed. I’m not sure Kadri’s playing style complements Coronato’s as well as Frost’s does.

That's pretty much the exact thing I was saying about Kadri and Huberdeau before last season, yet somehow they figured things out. Good players find a way to adapt their game to compliment the players on their line.
That said, I think that Pospisil, Klapka, and Zary are pretty good options as well.

Klapka had some real chemistry with Kadri emerge in those last few games. Kadri seemed to find him right in front of net for a tap in a few times.
Klapka will be an interesting wild card for first line minutes next season.

I'm absolutely excited to see what Klapka does this season. If his last few games last season were any indication as to what's coming next, this gonna be super fun.

I think Klapka would be a good fit for Kadri and Huberdeau. His size and forecheck would be a valuable asset to that line.
I like the idea of Frost and Coronato with a guy like Sharangovich.
Big issue is ice time though. You have Backlund and Coleman and then you have Zary, Farabee and Pospisil. 1 can play with Backlund and Coleman, but 2 are stuck on the 4th line. Backlund is getting old, but nothing so far says he will go from 17+ mins to less than 15 let alone less than 13 in a 4th line role.
If Conroy does not make a move, I hope they find some chemistry and make an earlier season move.

We have too many middle lineup players. We need to trade some of those players.

Maybe? But this lineup is both frustrating because it will lack good development play time for our young players and is unlikely to win anything. We should be looking at packaging Zary with someone like Coleman to see if that can land us a center upgrade. Or Farabee and Coleman, but depressed value makes that less likely. Sharangovich should also be out the door.

And yes, ideally we could trade Kadri to help the jam, too. Not looking to debate whether we can or should ask him to waive, just want to recognize that the forward core really doesn't make much sense and he seems like a logical piece to move and maximize value for.

A line up like this has tons of risk as well. You are saying Sharangovich can go, I'm thinking he will be a bounce back guy and his goal scoring is very needed with the players and prospects we have. Coronato is the only other sniper.
I'm not suggesting I'm right and you are wrong, that really does not matter. The question is, will Conroy when he evaluates players and picks players to move get full value if they struggle with low ice time and over time will he pick the right players.
Chemistry, slow starts, injuries leading to a 4th line role can lead to 1 player looking like they are odd man out and over time they end up being the better player.
We can all sit on CP and say maximize asset return and be patient. GM has to make decision, and Conroy knows what the offers are now vs what he ends up with. I think some players values are going to go down and GMs often trade those players.
IMO, we have no forwards that are irreplaceable. Some keepers for sure, but I trust the scouts to keep adding so pick someone and let others get a real chance.

That deal does hurt Zary if he wants $4.5 mil.

Guys that I would consider trading this season to make room:
Coleman
Backlund - Only if he wants to, it would be super interesting to trade both him and Coleman together to see if they can get Backlund a cup.
Lomberg
Zary - especially if his contract situation is getting negative or he can bring us back a big C upgrade.

I would only move Kadri out if we land McTavish (or equivalent). Moving him out without a replacement would just turn our C depth into Frost, Backlund, Zary, Kirkland, which is somewhat terrifying.
Even if your goal is to tank, I do not think you want to cave the team in on top of Wolf and Parekh.

I would not trade Zary unless someone significantly overpaid. He is an electric player, young, and has some potential.
He is the exact type of player you keep. He can help sell tickets for the next few years. We really do not have a lot of forwards like him who are fun to watch with their skill.

Zary should just sign a 2x3.25M deal and be done with it. It really shouldn't be that difficult to figure out.

I think it's probably about more than money. Zary had his ice time reduced when he came back from injury, and it showed in his numbers. He sees the lineup situation too. He could take a 2 year deal, end up in the bottom 6 for the entire time, and guarantee himself an even smaller extension... I think that's playing in his mind.

Not sure why he should, when he'll do better than that.
Rossi signed for 3 years, meaning he can take the Tkachuk route, and walk himself to UFA by accepting the qualifying offer of $6M at the end of his 3 year contract. That's the cost to Minny in not going long term with Rossi, much like it cost Treliving with Tkachuk.
If Zary signs a 2-year deal, he'll be able to become a UFA by accepting his qualifying offer when it expires.

If any of the prospects are good enough they can push out some of those vets. I still think there will be a lot of turnover on the roster over the next two years. No one is really getting blocked next season at forward barring a training camp surprise.

I been saying this all summer. Another example of what could happen waiting on the best return. Zary was very good, got hurt and now is getting low ball offers. Take the bridge, but you need ice time to get the next big payday.
If I was Zary I would not do 2 years as this year could be a write off for expecting big minutes.
Slow start or an injury the following year and he could lose millions.

Thats a nice in theory but in practice virtually never happens. As it were, the lineup I put out already has Lomberg munching popcorn.
There won't be more than 1-2 veterans at most occupying the press box. This organization wants to treat people better too, remember?
