Can we find Dustin a nice, local girl with a big close-knit family so he'll want to settle down here?

Gilroy CA is big rodeo country! Of course he likes rodeo!

Probably not at the Stampede...

Wheeler's Athletic Top 20 Goalies

1 - Askarov
7 - Levi
8 - Cossa
11 - Wallstedt

All goaltenders around the same age and prospect projections as Wolf.
Only Wolf has not only secured himself as a full time NHL, but as a starting goaltender.

If Wolf was still at the level of these four the Flames are a bottom 10 team last year.
If Cossa had emerged like Wolf you have to think that the Red Wings would have made the playoffs.

Hard to predict the path of prospects and team performance.

Off the chart. It's only a ranking of prospects, which he no longer is.

Sergeev should have made the list; best goalie in college hockey for 4 months. That should be good enough to at least be in the teens

He’s #1 on the NHL list for the Top 10 goalies under 25.

Quote:
A near-unanimous pick atop the ballots of 10 NHL goalie coaches, directors and scouts consulted while putting together this list, which also shows how difficult it can be to project the position considering he was the fourth-to-last player picked when Calgary selected Wolf in the seventh round (No. 214) of the 2019 NHL Draft.

Slow summer day, so I thought I would post this here. This Dustin Wolf video came into my feed yesterday and analyzes 3 things that he does really well. I personally find goaltending analysis interesting because honestly, it's the hardest position for me to get a good read on when it comes to some of the details.

I have to admit, I noticed that he'd frequently come out of the net to quickly handle the puck, but I think I underestimated just how smart he is when he does it and how much it helps both the defense, but also by giving the team a better chance to get or maintain control. He does it so quickly that sometimes I don't think it registers with me.

What's the contract situation with Wolf? I read somewhere (can't remember where though) that his agent was meeting with the Flames a few weeks ago to discuss. This guy is our best draft pick in man years, I say we break out the Brinks truck to keep him in Calgary.

Based on previous comments from Conroy and Wolf, it sounds like they are both wanting to get something done long term. I have no doubt it will get done eventually. It sounds like there is no tension among either party.

Shows how long it takes goalies to establish themselves as regulars in the NHL.

Wolf was the only regular last year, although Knight became one after being traded to the Hawks.

Wolf is head and shoulders above the competition IMO. Only one capable of actually being a legit starter.

You mean ever?

I'd say there are 10 goalies there that are capable potentially of eventually being starters.

Although the odds are certainly less than 100% for each of them other than Wolf.

Thanks for the video.

I know the author said it isn't an exhaustive list, just 3 things he likes, but I am amazed he didn't mention lateral movement, as I think it is his most elite skill.

He did mention Wolf's elite edges, which overlaps lateral movement for sure, but IMO, Wolf is as quick and controlled moving laterally as any goalie I have seen in a long time. I hate to make the comparison, but he looks somewhat Hasek-esque in that regard.
