Its all fun and games until Jimmy Hoffa's corpse falls on you in the pocket dawg line.

And rightfully so. Having tickets isn’t a god given right and the flames need to charge the maximum amount they can to capture as much profit as they can.
But for the people who have had tickets for 25 years and can barely afford it, I feel kinda bad. They’re going to get priced out. Or get moved to much worse seats.

From someone involved in construction earlier in this thread they literally aren't even doing a time lapse of the construction which is day one, elementary stuff for any arena/stadium construction in present day with social media. To not do that is brain dead R word in this day in age and not surprising to be missed by the Flames. So I wouldn't hold out hope on seats.

I don’t know if the Dome is a fantastic experience or not. That’s subjective. But people do take it for granted. It’s fantastic to me, but I’m also not 60 and needing to piss every 30 minutes. I’ve been to some old and some new and there is definitely something special about older spots with some history.
No, it’s not Fenway. It’s also not Roger’s Place. It’s the Saddledome and it’s the only one there is. Maybe it carries the same design as a few other places around the world, but that’s not what makes it unique.
Everything will probably be recreated in the new barn. Maybe. In 20-30 years. If we’re lucky.

There were some great moments that I will fondly remember, no doubt. I am old enough to remember games in the Corral, which was awesome, because the top row was something like row 17. I certainly don’t pine over that facility or wish they played there. I think it will be similar to the dome. Good times, but good times will be replicated in the new place, I am sure. One good playoff run and I would expect people to move on rather quickly.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Pretty much anything other than "place" would make the name more memorable. You could even call it something stupid like Box, Summit, Bowline, Point, Hall, Crest, practically anything.
Even from a marketing standpoint, you'd think Scotia Bank and/or the Flames would want a name that doesn't completely go in one ear and out the other. The Flames are going from one of the most unique names to the absolute least unique.
It's copying Toronto with Scotia, and copying Edmonton with Place. I do not enjoy copying Toronto and Edmonton, nor do I enjoy associating with them.

I'll just repost what I've said about this previously in this thread...

That's why every new sports venue has the most-generic name possible with a sponsor's name in front.

Labatt, the original owner of the Toronto Blue Jays, named the team that because they wanted the name to be free marketing for Labatt Blue beer. They figured people would call the team the Blues for short. Nope, everybody calls them the Jays.
This illustrates the importance of not having a distinctive or memorable noun in your corporate-sponsored name.

What is the time horizon though, are they trying to maximize for year 1 of the shiny new building or are they trying to maximize for the next ten or twenty years? I think sports are different than other businesses like hotels. If they increase my mid second tier blue line seats to $15,000, I may be in for a year just for the new building, then let them go. Is there someone waiting to pick them up, possibly, but I don’t believe there is currently much of a waitlist, if one at all. After 2 or 3 years and the new rink novelty has worn off, will I pick them back up for a lower price, not likely. Maybe someone will pick up the torch and run with it, but if not, did they maximize profits?

I didn't say Dome = Fenway.
All I'm saying is that sports in general is changed, and it's nothing but corporate spreadsheets trying to maximize profits from the fans. They aren't sports clubs anymore. It's all so artificial, and these new rinks with the bells and whistles have convinced us that is OK for sports teams to extort maximum dollars from us because we get a slightly elevated food and drink.
I'm just old man yelling at clouds.
