Exclamation Forever Canadian Petition Support (Alberta Politics)

From the Alberta Politics thread, it is worthwhile to bring more light to the need to support and sign the petition to put a positive and Canadian question into the referendum and eliminate the ability for the separatists to put their own question that will likely be misleading.

This petition is following the old rules and thus needs 300,000 signatures (10% of the electorate) and a short window of time (90 days) to collect all of those signatures.

Sources of information:
1) Follow their website: https://www.forever-canadian.ca/
2) Follow Thomas A. Lukaszuk on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/lukaszukab.bsky.social

There are several places in Calgary to sign the petition this weekend. Edmonton now has a permanent location that people can go to, as well as pop-up locations throughout the week. Look for whatever is upcoming, sign the petition yourself and spread the word to your friends and loved ones who may not be as aware of the situation but would be upset if they were suddenly not Canadian.

CTV Calgary (and other local media) are reporting on this:
https://www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/artic...ary-this-week/

Quote:
While many of those are going door-to-door or arranging small pop-up-style collection sites, the group does have some events scheduled in Calgary this week to collect signatures.

Aug. 12 — Rosemont Community Centre, Confederation Park, 4 to 6 p.m.;
Aug. 13, 14, 15 — City Hall plaza steps, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.;
Aug. 16 — Nose Hill Park, Shaganappi entrance, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
Aug. 16 — Confederation Park North, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
Aug. 16 — Carburn Park, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
Aug. 16 — Prince’s Island, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and,
Aug. 17 — Confluence Park, Riverwalk near bison structure, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Please help bump this thread often over the next couple of months and share any updates you see.

I was never a fan of Lukaszuk when he was in government, but I got to give him props for this initiative. A relic of the past PCs where he could be a conservative you would be willing to debate and have a conversation with as opposed to whatever you would call the people in charge now. I hope this petition succeeds.

I thought there was no chance that they collect the 300k signatures required but I'm starting to believe....

Signed up to be a canvasser, I'll at least hit my street and friends. Once I get credentials msg me if you're in Mount pleasant/Tuxedo/Crescent Heights area and I'll meet up.

I read somewhere last week that (CBC I think) that they have something like 2000 or so volunteers signed up. Reaching the signature threshold is definitely possible. I hope it happens.

I signed up as a volunteer but haven't been contacted yet.

WARNING!!!
It’s been brought to our attention that a fake website exists, misleading that the #ForeverCanadian petition can be signed online. With a laptop, they’re visiting senior homes.
Official @ElectionsAB petition must be signed on paper and this badge must be presented.
Dirty tricksters are at it.

With 2000 volunteers, it doesn't seem like a that unrealistic that each won't be able to get 150 signatures. Looks like a decent turn out already. I missed the one in princess island today. Will have to keep an eye on when they will be back downtown.

The CTV article that I linked above claims they have 4 times that:

Quote:
Lukaszuk says more than 8,000 volunteers have signed up to canvass across Alberta.
If that is true, it would mean a few things:
1) It is going to be hard to coordinate that big of a volunteer workforce and delays in them getting everyone moving is understandable
2) There is going to be a pretty decent cost to mobilize a group that big with everything they need (they might be short on cash if they are making badges and getting clipboards for 8000 people)
3) 300,000 signatures is definitely possible

We went to North Glenmore Park today and they had a great set up. 2 tables, probably 6 or 9 clipboards, and people were constantly walking or driving up to sign and then go about their day. It was moving really fast so there was never much of a line.

If they can keep that going at each of these locations, I think they could pull an extra 100K.

I was at Carburn Park yesterday. The crowds are pretty good, but the average age must’ve been 60. I think they will need to get out a much broader and more representative swath of the population, to get to the required number of signatures.

The canvasser kits are gratis, courtesy Elections Alberta.

Volunteers supply their own clipboards, pens, signage etc. and print out their own sheets. And buy their t-shirts.

I've seen a lot of late-20s, 30s types (with young kids in tow) signing.

If it's true there's 8,000 canvasers each person only needs what, 30-40 signatures? That seems pretty doable.
