League dealt with the issue of using position players to save a reliever in a game (trailing by a few or leading by a few)with the rules from a couple years ago.

Trailing teams can use a position player if down by 8 in a game and teams leading by 10 can only have a position player pitch in the 9th.

I’m stunned about the turn around of this team. On paper they shouldn’t be this good. I’m surprised in a good way though. It’s almost like they’re underdogs and it’s great to cheer for a team like that. Especially because they work hard.

I'd argue that on paper they should absolutely be good, and it was the last two years where they under achieved and came up short on what they should have been. Especially last year where they completely fell apart and only won 74 games.

If you look at their roster none of the core players are really having career years. And hopefully having a young player or two bursting onto the scene becomes a regular yearly occurrence for this franchise.

I know the rule. Thanks.

I think teams using a position player to keep bullpen arms fresh for the next game is stupid and makes the game look bad. Position players pitching should be the absolute last resort.

If a position player pitches when there are pitchers that are still in the bullpen, I’d require one of the arms that was in the bullpen at the time declared as unavailable to pitch in the next game.

I agree 280 million cant be optimal even in a fluke year. Got to be some underperformers.. but the team ok. They should be better than last year

Santander has been a big underperformer, as was Hoffman for quite awhile. Even Bassitt has probably been below expectations.

The breakput years for Barger/Clement/Lauer have helped a lot - expectations were low for all of then at the beginning of the season.

Weird thing about Bo - his sprint speed is now in the 22nd percentile. When he came into the league it was 83rd percentile. His recent leg injuries plus some bulking up likely hurt his speed but also probably impacts his range at shortstop. It also explains when he doesn’t always get the green light from Febles to come home.

I hope they let Bo go.

They can find another way to replace his bat. Hell, a healthy Santander might do it. And they can easily improve on his defense with Clement or Giminez.

I think a six man rotation is going to be good for everyone. There will be strain on the bullpen but the rotation is an aging group made up of some proud vets who aren’t likely going to admit that they are fatiguing. Berrios likely needs a couple of games off but won’t want to give up on his streak.

We all know how much you love Berrios.

I really believe something just isn’t physically right with him. I remember seeing him pitch a few games ago and he spent a good amount of time with Ministral after coming out. His velo is down and his command is off. I think he’s trying to grind through something and it isn’t working.

At least the OOT scoreboard is much more favourable today.

Bo-Sox lose. Astros and Tigers getting blown out. And Yankees went from up one to down one against Cards with just a few innings left.

The good news is the Redsox blew it in the 9th and lost and the Cardinals just erased a 3-0 lead to take the lead over the Yankees

Bosox, Tigers and Astros are the big ones right now so that's great. Mariners and Yankees would be a bonus.

Now the Jays have 9 straight against non playoff teams, just too bad the first 6 are on the road as the jays are only .500 on the road. Sure would be nice to have an epic run here, 8-1 or 7-2, but I don't see it with 6 of them on the road.

I think there's a chance the extra day of rest for the starters gets them a bit of extra length there. If they get an extra inning from the starter every second game that basically replaces the reliever you're losing.
