I suppose I could be content if Reschny has a Sakic-level career.

The only perceived skating issues Reschny had pre-draft was top speed, his edges and quickness was never an issue and some say was even elite.
I'm told he looked a lot faster last month, it's not uncommon for a kid to gain a lot of speed as they get older and stronger.

Joe Sakic was also a high scoring, but slightly undersized centre when he was drafted mid first round out of the WHL.
Quote from a scout at the time about Sakic:
“Usually, a player of this calibre would be certain to go in the top five. The reason he probably won’t is his size and average skating ability.”

I'm not too worried about Reschny's size holding him back from being an NHL center. He has intensity and grit which is what often makes the difference between and slightly undersized player making it or not. It's almost more of a personality type than a tangible skill.

Draft video, 2nd hug. Is that dad? Big-shouldered tank of a human. This kid may have mega mass gains ahead of him. May not need the height.

I place a fairly high emphasis on the importance of size, and I have no real concerns when it comes to Reschny. He's 5'11", well over 190lbs by some accounts, and is farmboy strong.

Yep. The Flames pay a lot of attention to ‘compete’.

I don’t know about the Sakic comp, but maybe we drafted the modern day Adam Oates? Size, skating concerns, elite passer?
I think I’d be ok with that

My biggest curiosity is whether Reschny or Potter have a better NCAA season this year. Both centers. Both 1st round picks. My money is on Potter as he had a full season in the NCAA as an 18 year old. Knows what to expect. In theory should give him a leg up on all these CHL imports. But Reschny is the higher pick. Arguably higher potential. Will be fun to watch.

And Reschny will have arguably better talent around him to play with

Ha, never knew Sakic was that small actually. TIL.
Reschny should take that comparison and just start constantly practicing his wrist shot. 10,000 reps a day for the next few years. Lol.
