This stupid meeting is a win for Putin no matter what comes out of it. Just by agreeing to it, the Americans have legitimized him by giving him a worldwide platform, and on U.S. soil to boot. They even rolled out a red carpet for him FFS. Once again, Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle and the orange dips*** is completely oblivious.

Putin, in Russian, says he gave Trump a “neighborly” greeting on the tarmac, stressing how close Russian territory is to the United States. He emphasizes that Alaska, a former Russian territory, is part of a shared history. He is describing himself as an ally of the United States instead of as a rival. But he is not yet talking about a peace deal.

Putin says they have reached an agreement to “pave the path to peace in Ukraine” without saying what the agreement actually is.

Putin says the “roots” of Russian concerns in Ukraine need to be eliminated before a full peace deal can be reached. One of those concerns is the removal of Zelensky’s government itself, so that is a high bar. Putin is instead focusing on economic cooperation between the US and Russia.

One last update:
Some advisers to Trump have been realistic in private — and Trump was to a degree earlier today — that he and they cannot force Ukraine to accept a deal that involves giving up its land.

As Putin talks about the need to eliminate “root causes” of the war in Ukraine, he is using his usual shorthand for a list of demands that have been categorically rejected by Ukraine and Europe. This suggest he is maintaining his hardline position.
Trump leaves with no deal.

Putin says he and Trump have reached an “understanding” on Ukraine, and warned Europe not to “torpedo” the nascent progress.

I hope all of Europe and Zelensky collectively tell both Putin and Trump to go f*** themselves.

Putin won this meeting. He got to visit the US on a military base and a delay on secondary sanctions for the US. Looks like he played Trump like a fiddle

Trump isn’t in the dark here. He’s owned and operated by Putin. This has been clear since before the 2016 election and we all remember Helsinki. All a set up.

All Trump hate aside, if he pulls funding for the Ukrainian resistance, Putin can roll tanks over the entire country. Let's not forget that everyone thought this would be a complete wipeout and over within days. American military aid has been the only thing stopping Putin from achieving all of his goals easily.
Will the European leaders that are lobbying Trump to avoid Ukraine from ceding territory replace the American military funding? I don't think so. The only way this ends is if Russia get to keep what they've taken.

Question: who was in power in the USA when the invasion of Ukraine started?
Follow-up question: did you eat paint chips as a kid?

I don't know how either of those questions are relevant, sorry. Insulting me is not going to change the situation Ukraine are in. There's no way they can keep fighting without American military support - the Europeans are simply too cheap to contribute enough to make a significant difference on the battlefield.
I don't pretend to be an expert on military or geopolitical matters. I really don't know much. What is obvious to me, however, is that the Ukrainians have to decide between giving up a lot now or having everything taken from them later.

The addition of Finland and Sweden to NATO, in my opinion, can give Europe the power to back themselves up without the US. They are powerful and disciplined military forces.
What they decide to do in the face of US betrayal, I'm not sure. But I guarantee Putin isn't stoked about facing NATO with them in the fold, especially after a few years of attrition that's led to NK conscription.

Ok, so think this through, Russia has spent 3 years, all it's first line armour and troops, lost it's whole Black Sea fleet and about a million men in order to bog down a hundred miles into a country a thousand miles long, it is now conducting a first world war operation, throwing troops on foot into advances into the teeth of machine guns supported by artillary whose shells are made in China and N Korea because Russia has run out in order to gain half a mile or so at best, meanwhile it's economy is collapsing, inflation is running between 20 and 30% minimally.
Russia is no where close to winning anything, they no longer have (assuming they ever did) the ability to hold Ukraine even if the Ukrainian Army did, for some inexplicable reason collapse, holding a country is as expensive as a war, Russia's main market is Europe who will never drop sanctions no matter what Trump and Putin does, and frankly I doubt anyone in the EU will ever trust the Russians again even if sanctions where dropped, Germany will always source alternatives to Russian gas from here on in
If Putin's dead carcass wasn't going to be hanging on a lamp post the minute Russia ends the war Russia would have cried uncle 2 years ago, at this point Russia and Putin are stuck, they are losing the war in reality, it is destroying them, they have the shear population to keep throwing meat into the grinder for a few more years, they might take another 50 miles but they have used up all their armour, all their mobility
Now granted Ukraine can't win either but they don't have too, they just have to survive while the Russian economy collapses, at 20 to 30% inflation that collapse is actually very very close
