To be frank in general, yes I do. Do I think sleep apnea is a serious condition and should be dealt with? Yes! There are other options that can reduce or eliminate the need for one. It doesn't matter to me if people have one or need one, that is their business.
I do think a lot of us in North America generally don't think too outside of the box and just buy whatever we are told and take whatever medication we are told without logical thinking.
Friends of mine who are in their 30's/40' and have CPAP machines need to have conversations with themselves about where their lives are headed. Some of them are grossly obese and eat beyond awful daily. They don't need more machines, they need weight and nutritional management along with more active lifestyles. It starts with basics. I am by no means a fitness athlete but still I can see things.
It's ok to question things and look elsewhere for obvious answers. In poor countries, in countries where obesity rates are vastly lower (even G7 ones) you don't have huge volumes of people on CPAP machines. It's become routine here and nobody questions it.

It's one of the easiest things to do, that offers several benefits, and no downside.
Just because you don't seem to know enough about it, don't assume those that take it, haven't educated themselves. Or trusted their medical professional.

It's not that big of a weird take. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking it occasionally or any other stool softener. I get it, we all can get constipated and need relief.
What my original gear grinder was how much exposure on tv, internet and supermarket placement we have for this stuff in 2025. It seems like it's everywhere and it's masking problems and a lot more people are taking them as a result of conditions related to our health.
The majority of people do not get enough fiber in their diets and are not active enough to assist with bowel movements.
An insane amount of people these days have GI related issues, gluten concerns and other tummy problems so to speak. Having bowel movements helps with those symptoms so I get it. Ozempic and other like medications have exploded in popularity for a variety of reasons, including diabetes and vanity reasons. Ozempic is known to cause awful constipation and other stomach issues for a lot of people so naturally more people are turning to stool softeners for relief.
Bottom line is our food system is beyond garbage in a lot of ways and our modern lifestyles aren't helping us in a lot of ways either.
That is my gear grinder

There is also nothing wrong with taking it regularly.
It shouldn't be used as a substitute along side better nutrition and exercise, but even if you are doing those things, it can still be a positive thing to take daily.

And yet by nearly every measure, quality of life and life expectancy have never been better.
If people buy stuff they don’t need, that’s really on them. There has always been snake oil salesman selling useless crap, but anybody with critical thinking skills isn’t going to waste their money on it.
I think again, curves, you surround yourself with people who skew your worldview in a very bad way.

An interesting hardline stance to take against Metamucil. Perhaps curvy has stock in Miralax and is running a sneaky anti Metamucil campaign.
I can't say I've ever seen an ad for it anywhere, neither print nor television, ever. Perhaps I'm not reading billboards closely enough. Sounds like Big Poop's got its stinky finger in every pie you can think of.

The modern world rules. People like to eat all the tasty food that is on offer, and guess what, most people also hate to exercise.
Ozempic is a miracle drug, and is most likely the first step in a series of scientific discoveries which will eliminate obesity almost entirely. We should be greeting its proliferation with celebration, not skepticism.

Yes, even young people should have it. Doctors say so, but what do they know with their vaccines and nonsense.
Also I am skinnier than schit and probably have apnea. No one answered how much these machines are. My old boss had multiple heart attacks apparently his heart was stopping multiple times a night. Said its a miracle cure. Same with my father in law.

I'm pretty sure that was also the Pull Quote for the BlyssPluss pill from Margaret Atwood's 'Oryx and Crake.'
"Come get your miracle!"

Supplements and modern medicine in general exists to improve health and, therefore, quality of life.
If someone is on ozempic for weight loss and metamucil so they can take a regular poop while they’re on ozempic, that’s a good thing.
I’m a big diet and exercise over supplements and medication proponent myself, but you have to recognize that:
A: these are just different ways to get to the same result (being healthier)
B: it’s literally has zero impact on your life so stop hating on your friends all the time
I know one person in my life on a CPAP machine. There are probably more. But I can’t for the life of me understand what business of mine it is why they’re on it nor why I should have any opinion at all about it.
Sleep better, lose weight, take great ####s. Live your life.

I'm reading the news on my desktop computer when some clown named Gary Coleman calls saying he represents Mega Millions and I won a prize. He proceeds to tell me how I can claim my prize. Before he finishes I tell Gary he won a prize also. What would that be he says sarcastically? I pick up the whistle on my desk and blow hard into the phone. No more Gary just silence

Fair, but apnea can suck the life out of you (my experience) making it much harder to address causes or exacerbations like weight issues.

Do those funny pillows on TV really help with sleep apnea?
I think the dental appliance for apnea costs about the same as a cpap.
