He also played out of Victoria, which is harder to get to for scouts because of the ferry, so maybe some teams didn’t get as many eyes on him through the year. I’m not sure about this, but I hear a lot about scouts just “driving up” to see so and so when they’ve got some time… that doesn’t happen with Victoria when you might miss a ferry and have to wait four hours to come over.

Its a black hole of a place to play, Prince Albert and Victoria are the most dreaded to be drafted by. Kudos to him sticking it out.

Prince George might actually be the worst place I've ever been to.

I'm a huge Monahan fan and I hope the answer is Reschny because the Flames sure could use a homerun like that.

Fingers crossed Reschny has the better career but I would be just fine if we got a Monahan 2.0 in terms on point production. I just hope that Reschny becomes the 1C we need. He looks to be a great play driver so I’ve got high hopes.

Spent 6 month living in Prince George and then moved to Vancouver Island.
One of those three places is completely not like the other.

For players with 10 games or more, Reschny's 2.27 ppg in the playoffs ranks 24th-best all-time.
....and he was 17.
Only Gavin McKenna had a better ppg in this season's playoffs, with 2.38.
Reschny's 2.27 ppg rank 6th-best all-time for U-18 players in the WHL playoffs.
Another reason for optimism.

That Markstom trade could really become something special...all for a player added for nothing as UFA who gave a few years of good service

I assume they would take the sea plane over to Victoria.

A few years of mediocre service, really.

I lived there for the first 5 years of my working life. It's not for the feint of heart. Men's Rec Hockey there was like Quebec senior leagues .
Teams used to go there for a lot of Friday/Saturday double headers due to how remote it is. There were some instances of opposing players getting beat up and mugged in downtown trying to walk from their motel to 7-11.

Reschny needs to work on his skating, but has excellent vision and playmaking. Pretty different from Monahan, who is the elite trigger man.
Truth is we'll never know what Monahan would have been capable of, as his career was so derailed by injuries. Without all those injuries Monahan probably finished his career with 1000 points. Even with the injuries he has 595 points so far. He's probably close to 800 without them.
Obviously injuries are part of the game and a major reason being to that 1000 point milestone is so hard.

Similarly, we needed a RCMP escort to get out of town in Fort St John one time as well

not sure if we have the same list but the others are
Rob Brown
Connor Bedard
Gavin McKenna
Pavel Brendl
Alfie Turcotte (in 1983)
throw in the 18 year olds
gives you a few random guys from the absurd early 80s
Joe Sakic
Michael Rasmussen
Dan Lambert
Dean McAmmond
Cliff Ronning
are there some busts in these names- yeah a couple, but the list is mostly career NHLers to superstars (current or potential) some of the more headscratcher names also weren't the 'big dog' on their team but supplemental
