Haaaaaa, for someone who gets prickly about "unfounded assumptions" you sure make a lot.
Most teams in this era are focused on building sustainable contenders and birth years come in to play heavily. Especially when talking about trade value.

I'm not sure if anyone can really build a sustainable contender. Even teams like Vegas/Florida have contention windows. Once your stars start making money.

Yeah, it is very very hard. No doubt. I think Tampa, Vegas, Boston (may be ending), Florida (just starting really), Carolina, and Dallas have shown the best progress towards building clubs like this.

Even while those teams build their sustainable contenders, they still supplement with whatever player(s) they feel will help them win, regardless of their age.
Marchand to the Panthers to win a cup and now getting a wild 35+ contract to try and win again immediately. They clearly do not care that he is 37 years old.
Kadri is a couple of years younger, plays a more important position, and scores more goals in their respectively aged years. I do not think it is a stretch to assume that Kadri would be desirable on any team trying to win a cup and I believe because he plays C his value is higher.
Centers always go for more than wingers.

Marchand is a great example. Incredible playoff performer, 40 goal scorer. Better career and reputation than Kadri. He got a conditional second (he helped make that into a first)
IMO that is a great comparable in what we can expect in a Kadri trade. A conditional 2nd with outside chance of it becoming a first.
Birth year definitely played into that value.

Marchand specifically wanted to go to Florida. That's what hurt the return.

Yes, if you ignore half of my post that is exactly right. If they were both wingers we could expect the same return.
However, Marchand is a winger and Kadri is a center.

Yeah, Kadri also has control over where he goes.
And Wolven, Marchand > Kadri enough so that I expect it easily offsets any positional difference in value.

If we are talking about centers the most recent center that is around Kadri’s age that got traded is Nelson. He got a former 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and a future 1st round pick.
Year before that was Henrique who is a far inferior player to Kadri. He was with a 1st and a 4th. Ryan O’Reilly who also at the time was inferior to what Kadri currently is got a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd.
Those examples of centers suck for Monahamer so he will use a winger instead.

What hurts Kadri's value is his continuing contract. He has too many years left.
But he certainly has value.

The difference between Marchand and Kadri is that Marchand is a proven playoff performer over the years. He has helped his team go on multiple deep runs. And he got a conditional 2nd.
Kadri had a good run in Colorado, but the team was so good they likely win without him too. He was injured half that run. And a few of his other runs he got suspended and cost his team playoff series.
Either way though, people were saying his contract was untradeable a couple of years ago. Now he is worth a lot more than a 1st?

I mean... what really hurts his value is his full no movement clause and his desire to not be traded. His value as a trade chip will remain zero as long as he doesn't want to be traded.
Aside from the NMC, I think his value is excellent right now. He just put up a career high 35 goal season. If he can maintain himself then he should be able to keep putting up 20+ goals throughout the rest of his contract.
Also, with the cap going up it will be easy for teams to assign $7M cap space to a second or third line center while top line guys are getting $12-15M. If he gets traded to a team that can deploy him as a third line center, he could easily capitalize on the easier assignments to put up goals.

You have an incredibly weird way of misremembering things to fit your opinion.
Kadri's contract is "untradable" because of his NMC and his decision to not be traded. That is still true today.

That Nelson trade skews things back towards Kadri having good value.

You mean the Great Avalanche who have won one round since they lost him, and couldn't get past the second before he arrived? He did let them down the previous year when he got suspended. But I guess 4 out of 20 qualifies as half the playoffs too the following season?
Get your facts straight if you insist on doing this every single hour.

Yeah, Conroy is sitting pretty.
If Kadri is made available next offseason, there will be a lot of suitors. He’s still a gamer.

It’s hilarious that he became the exact player they need.

Well they need a lot more than him now. They just lost an elite winger for nothing lol. Brad Treliving special.

And the Avs would have gone with Kadri over Nelson in a heartbeat.
