I wanted to see IMO which publication lasted longer before losing credibility, based on the first movie in their rating was the most overrated. For where they placed.

Rotten tomatoes lost it at #3 (Black Panther)
Imdb lost it at #19 (Joker)
Esquire lost it at #12 (The Batman)
Ringer lost it at #2 (Black Panther)

I understand the love for Black Panther, but as a movie in this genre it's arguably landing anywhere from 6 to 15. There was just a lot of cultural significance to its release and a star lost too soon. Neither of those things change the quality of the movie, however. The Batman was just very silly as a detective story. Joker was... fine.

So this is sort of a rundown of where a publication might bow to public pressure to pick the popular choice. Makes sense that imdb is the heartless media source that we all crave.

Fantastic four didn’t do it for me.

I’m not sure if any of them like each other. Their dynamic just didn’t work for me.

Spoiler!

The movie looked fantastic with the retro future set design being amazing.

So for me, just okay.

The Dark Knight definitely hasn't benefited from either of these things when it's evaluated.

Joker at 19 isn't so off the wall. That's a movie with objectively good qualities, so it's placing, in that range, is really a matter of opinion. Wonder Woman at 23 is a much bigger offence. The first movie on the list where I can't even think of an argument for it being so high up there.

Avengers Assemble at #4 is also way too high, but that may be my opinion.

Wow after 17 years the MCU finally gave us an Incredible Hulk sequel!

Strange they called it Captain America with Sam Wilson as the protagonist while Bruce Banner was no where to be found.

It's because of the distribution agreement Marvel (pre-Disney) made with Universal, who owned the film rights to The Hulk.

When Marvel was making plans for the MCU, they were re-acquiring the film rights to many of the characters that had been sold off to various studios over the years. The X-Men and Spider-Man films had been huge hits, so Fox and Sony weren't interested in giving up their rights, but the Ang Lee Hulk film didn't do quite as well, and Universal was willing to play ball.

Universal let Marvel have the production rights to The Hulk back as long as they kept the distribution rights. This meant Marvel had full creative control over how the character was used, and he could be used freely in other MCU projects, but Universal would handle distribution for any stand-alone Hulk films.

This was a good deal for both sides because, at the time, Marvel wasn't owned by a big studio that could do its own distribution and if the MCU was a big hit, The Hulk would be one of the central characters and multiple sequels would be virtually guaranteed. A year after the Edward Norton Hulk came out, Disney bought Marvel and they now had a big studio owner that could do its own distribution.

Disney realized that they'd have to share revenue with Universal on any stand-alone Hulk films, but they could him as much as they wanted in any non-Hulk movies and not give Universal anything.

As of 2023, Disney now controls the distribution rights for The Hulk, but they started working on the script for Brave New World in 2021.

Only watched the first episode and I really enjoyed it.

The acting by Wendy was notable too me, she really focused on the loose/sloppy movements to sell her age.

I'm sooo tired but so worth it. Couldn't sleep for an hour after watching the 2nd episode. There is no way they could have made this into a 2-3 hour movie.

It's definitely movie quality. I like the Fargo-like music in it too.

Yep. Outside of the aliens and the 1979 Alien vibe of the ship, Sydney Chandler was the highlight for me. Also the guy playing Morrow the cyborg on the ship is good. Very promising start as my 17 year old in particular loved it.

Episode 1 was amazing. Episode 2 was good but focused a bit too much on the gore elements. I would have liked it better if they had made the Xenomorph more of a stalking and mysterious force, instead of just a crazed animal ripping everyone apart. I think they missed out on the potential to have episode 2 be true horror. It would also have been better if some of the soldiers had been able to hit the xenomorph. We didn't see any acid blood.

There's definite call backs to the best 3 Alien movies (Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus). They re-use a lot of the same shots from all 3 movies. I thought that was a good way of adding a nostalgic feeling, instead of just hitting you over the head with references or giving you cheesy fan service like they did in the recent Star Wars films.

So far both of the first 2 episodes feel like one long movie. The action is just flowing directly from one scene to the next, as opposed to being split up into "episodes". Both episodes kept my attention at all times though. I could probably sit through a full 8 hour movie of this. It's been that good so far.

Some of the acting seems great. I'm worried the "boy genius" might get a bit over the top. I'm starting to get Jesse Eisenberg Lex Luthor vibes from him.

Totally agree about the boy genius. Probably the weakest part of the show so far. I think a Peter Wayland (Prometheus) type of character may have been better for that character instead of a nerdy young guy.

They are clearly trying to build him up as a Mark Zuckerberg type, which I guess is somewhat accurate to the present day. But even Zuckerberg isn't some tyrant of Facebook. He works closely with committees of people and board members. He likes to stay largely out of the limelight too, and isn't running a cult of personality. It's guys like Bezos and Musk who do that kind of stuff, and they are in their 50s and 60s, and both are more businessmen than tech geniuses borrowing hundreds of thousands of dollars from their parents to start their first businesses.

Now that I think about it the pacing of the first 2 episodes reminded me a bit of Dredd, which is a good thing, as that movie was great.

Okay, I'm not so well versed in the 'Alien-verse' as it were, what is the context of this show within that Universe?

Where are we?

Are Aliens/etc a "OH MY GOD!! Its an Aliens!!!" or are we more at "Oh ####, not these ####ers again!!"

Because the whole 'humanity's corrupt Corporate Overlords wants to capture super aliens thing for reasons' is pretty played out.

"Look at this disgusting oozing egg-sac thing! I should stick my face in it!!"

Yeah. Thats top-notch futuristic military training that is right there...

Appropriately book-ended with 'Stinkfist' by Tool.

Excellent. So we dont have to worry about anything, its all going to be alright! Future Humanity still doesnt know jack about Aliens so this will likely get taken care of quickly, quietly and efficiently! In true Human fashion!
