Is it the only screw left in?

If so, have you considered a sturdy pair of gloves, appropriate leverage and the irrational application of brute force and ignorance?

That'll naturally come with some problems of it's own, but it'll get the job done?

We have a baby gate that needs to have it's hinges replaced. In order to remove and add new hinges the rod that they go on needs to be removed. However, this is being held on by a screw (see picture) and I cannot get it out - it just turns and turns. I've tried to use pliers to get it out, I've tried to remove the plastic (without being too destructive) but I have no idea what I can do to get it out.

Any suggestions?

Is it screwed into the wall or the screw for the clear plastic? Physically pull outwards on the gate while attempting to unscrew? Basically, try and put pushing pressure from the other side vs pulling?

My new place is in a 1979 building. As such, it lacks the floor-to-ceiling windows I've become accustomed to and with it, a good deal of the natural light I love so much about my current apartment.

I'm contemplating making one of these as a 'skylight' for my new place and putting it in the staircase. The condo is on the top two floors of the building so a skylight would be a plausible thing to have in such a suite, and one of the other places I had looked at even had a real skylight in the kitchen. One of the video comments mentioned using controllable LEDs and an Arduino to shift the colour temperature with the time of day to match with sunrise and sunset, which would be really friggin' slick.

Obviously my install will hide the wires and such.

You should watch the video. Those Costco lights won't even remotely provide the same end result because they lack the Fresnel lens that creates the daylight effect. It's not just about colour temperature, but the simulated distance of the light source and how it changes the illumination of objects in the space. It's actually pretty cool how it works.

If I could dismantle and add a Fresnel lens layer -- and find a lens large enough for a 4'x1' light -- then perhaps those are an option.

Ah, sorry just skimmed it. But ya, if you could find a lens that size it would be easy to pop in.

Fuzz: Does the app for that light include a function for syncing colour temperature and on/off with sunrise and sunset? Because that would be pretty wild.

Not sure, I really only used the remote to set the temp to something I liked, and left it. Didn't feel like I needed the app for that.

I doubt they’d considered writing you can’t cut a hole in the roof in the lease terms.

Is it your fault you weren’t there pre 2020. No, I think it’s theirs and they should have to put skylights in for you at all other residents costs. Just the way it has to be.

I have a skylight in my garage, if it helps at all with the frustration.

Totally worth it.

I almost put one in my shed. Man, imagine not having a skylight in your life? SAD.

Honestly not even a reason for being. How does one get up in the morning knowing they don’t have a skylight.

I guess for the commute 45 mins to a cubicle in some industrial park office to enter numbers into a spreadsheet, under suspended ceiling fluorescent lighting, while you longingly stare at a picture of one on your second screen. One day. It will happen. Someday. Maybe.

Maybe we can take a picture of ours, frame the print, and send it to TD so he can keep them on his desk?

Or I could print out a full scale version he can tape to his ceiling? I dunno, feels like we should do something here to help.

We should have a poll and determine what the ratio is. Is one real skylight equal to three LED panels equal to six full scale printed pictures of a skylight?

So with all this rain something is leaking on the outside of my house. I thought it might have just been a window but water damage is starting to come in higher than the window itself. Who’s the best people to call to get this figured out? Siding company? Roofing? It’s a two story wall so it’s hard for me to figure out where it is coming in from. Does anyone have any recommendations?
