Honestly, the entire thing is incredibly embarrassing. Both sides and the entire debacle.

While I don't disagree, there's no both sides here. We have to go to a juvenile "They started it" type of situation.
Republicans in the US and UCP-supporters have no problem playing juvenile tricks, taking the low road, having zero decorum or respect for our institutions. On the other side, you have people like Obama who truly believed bi-partisan solutions were possible, or Notley who believed she could work with the Conservatives. And both of them got very little done and then lost.
You HAVE to fight fire with fire in today's political environment. Taking the high road just means you lose.

You can't have two referendums on the same issue at the same time. So, if the signatures are found so this goes forward, a referendum for separation can't have signatures collected until after the vote. Its a blocking tactic.
Smith and the UCP are fighting in court to allow the separation referendum, also.

|
Not quite. The APP now only get to try to get signatures and ask 'their' question if the Forever Canadian one doesn't get enough signatures and doesn't succeed in becoming the referendum question. That's the whole point behind it being 'first' and needing more. It completely blocks out the APP.

I guess we need to pre-order our vaccines now? Healthcare in Alberta, about the same as a video game purchase.

Lol this is just the first step towards requiring fees for flu shots too.
They'll use this data as "proof" of low demand and then remove the public funding entirely, calling it an efficiency win.
This is too easy, maybe I should be part of this administration too!

Yeah, they’re using our local chat groups to promote upcoming signing opportunities, including setting up in parks, at libraries, residential front yards, and community events. They’re well organized and highly motivated.

So should we just max out the preorders on all the vaccines? Stick it to the UCP?

Much like your video game example if you get people to commit early you end up selling more games and have better plan for production volumes. It also works as early advertising for vaccines as we are talking about them 2-3 months early. (Not that this is the goal of this particular government)

Yeah. If you want to get people to do something trying to drum up some FOMO is an effective plan.

Well, you should get vaccinated for your own health benefits. Since this is apparently going to be the only way to get the vaccines this year, you should sign up.
In that sense, yes, we should max out the preorders. Not to stick it the UCP, but because it's the right thing to do. Making the UCP look bad is just a bonus.

I think there is value in Forever Canadian. The separatists in their Facebook bubble think there is far more support for their position than actually exists.

Im already signing myself and my Mum up for the preorder but I'm so sick of Smith and the UCP that I want to max out the orders for the rest to make them look bad.

I'm torn. On one hand, I agree with the premise that if we're going to get the question we might as well have the majority frame it as 'we want to stay in canada'. And I think it's absolutely hilarious that the separatists got beat to the punch and now they have to fight in court (with government support ....)
But at the end of the day, whether the Forever Canadian folks or the separatists get their question through, we still wind up with a referendum and yes/no question on whether Alberta should stay in Canada. The only difference is whether the question is 'should we leave' or 'should we stay'.

I think people generally prefer to answer yes to a question so the phrasing is important. Except for UCP fans who prefer to say no so the phrasing is important.

The other thing is that we cannot have another question on the same subject for 5 years. So if the signature collecting fails (for either side) the separatists could try a new question every year and we’d constantly have the threat of separation looming over our heads and effing up the economy.

Pre-order for Covid & Flu Vaccines is up. https://bookvaccine.alberta.ca/vaccine/s/
Yep, that's right, you have to pre-order, if you make it through that stage then you schedule your vaccination, and once it's scheduled be prepared to fork over $110/vaccine for Covid. Oh yeah, and there's less vaccines ordered than the number of shots that were given out last year.
We live in the stupidest ####ing province god damn it.
