I get Fuzz's aversion though, the way Farkas grandstands about it reeks of a publicity stunt and always just feels like the Obama birth certiticate stuff, for example.
That said, the move from Gondek would be to release it and make Farkas look like a dick

I dunno. I think knowing who backs municipal politicians matters more than other levels of government.
Don’t they have to publish the donors after the election anyway? Why not make it a weekly update?
Wasn’t there a big furor over who was backing bill smith in 2017?

It's a strategic move by Farkas to
a) get his name out in a headline
b) position himself as the first opponent to the incumbent
Since the incumbent has a low approval rating and no one else has yet to fire shots at Gondek might as well try to get out front in the race before the other names get more exposure.

We can see everything from 2021 anyways:
https://www.electionscalgary.ca/resu...-finances.html
Farkas raised nearly $860k last time vs Gondek just under $540k.
Of course its all in a useless format, and each list is sorted differently.

And what if she doesn't? Does she get a pass anyways because at least she isn't Farkas?

As others said it gets released anyway, but I agree that Farkas keeping his public the whole time anyway is a good thing and should just be mandatory.
Like I said, the donor list isn't my point of contention the grandstanding is. No way he actually thinks theirs anything nefarious going on, it's just theatre
I actually like Farkas, at the moment he's got my vote unless he trips over too many coffee tables and shows cracks of his old self too often
Edit: If I even vote, wife and I are trying to decide if we ethically should since we're only in Calgary a third of the year at the most for the next few years

It’s practically the same donors between all of the major candidates trying to hedge their bets. I am not sure there is going to be some gotcha moment in there, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising to learn that every member of the Wenzel family donated the max amount to both Farkas and Gondek.

The fact that you're posting in this thread probably makes you at least 3x more informed than the average voter, so if you will qualify to vote on election day I think it's justifiable.

I think that’s important to know before the election. With parties it’s often framed as left vs right. Often in municipal politics it’s developers donating to everyone with squabbles about “left” and “right”.
Knowing that before elections is useful.

Was speaking with someone very well connected in the municipal politics world a couple of weeks ago. Sharp polling around 2%, even Davison is ahead of her at like 5%.

Just to be clear, I'm no fan of Sharp and certainly wouldn't vote for her. I'm shocked to hear that she's at 2% in the polls, though. She has major money behind her and Global News have given her the last word on every major story out of city hall for the last year.

No one really cares about the election, at least at this point. It doesn’t come up in any conversations and there is no buzz around it. I’d imagine about 2% even naming her as running for mayor. Guys like Brian Thiessen are totally cooked at this point. Maybe a lot changes from Labour Day until the vote, but at this point I’d imagine it’s Gondek and Farkas by a lot over whoever is third.

I'm of the same impression. And I think Gondek sewered herself successfully enough that this one Farkas' to lose.
I think we should chain him to Fuzz or something so he has to go hiking every weekend or some such equivalent nonsense.

If you chain him to me, I'm gonna take him sailing on the reservoir, and my boat is a one seater.

If he makes it back to shore maybe he'll have another epiphany?

Bingo. The aversion from some posters to politicians politicking during a campaign is less about what they're doing and more about their opinion of who is doing it.
