I'm just bored and trying to get the thread back on topic.
I'd agree I don't really think there's a fit for ERod & the Flames, more just a case of him saying Florida probably wants to clear cap and the Flames have ample cap space.
Though they could try the Mantha plan (that didn't pan out) again from last year and bring him in to flip him for picks/prospects at the deadline.

I think that the Mantha plan was for one year only as a stop gap. They already have too many prospects for too few positions. I actually think that the Flames are pretty well setup for the next few seasons to gradually introduce new players onto the team as veterans are aged out through trades and expiring contracts. They really just need a few of these forward prospects to pop into dynamic offensive play drivers to have this thing going in a really good direction.

So I guess at this point everyone has forgotten about Marco Rossi?
Seems like a lifetime ago we were having that debate.
The main RFA's yet to sign from this (apologies for the Sportsnet link)
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...mours-reports/
Luke Evangelista
Ryker Evans
Luke Hughes
Mason McTavish
Marco Rossi
Connor Zary
Others like Alexander Holtz, Wyatt Kaiser, and Mykael Pyytia sill not signed.
Have to think the bottom three will end up at QO.

Those are some very good players. I wonder if those fanbases are bellyaching like Flames fans are about Zary lol.

Really off topic, but I would love to hear Dustin Boyd's story one day. From NHL hopeful to Kazakhstani hockey cult hero. When he, Dawes, and Bochenski became Kazakhstan nationals at the same time, it was a pretty big deal over there and all of them became local icons, but I heard that Boyd in particular was really loved over there. He had a really good career there for many years.
It just sounds like it could be a really interesting story.

So Zary's AAV will obviously be term dependent -- I'll assume a 3 or 4 year deal because the Flames don't want longer term injury risk (a roll of the dice either way vs a contract taking Zary to UFA). if the Flames are offering $3.5M and Zary is wanting $4.5M, do you just split the difference? $1M in a rising cap doesn't seem like much, we're talking 1 league minimum player on the roster.

My guess would be the Flames want 2 years @ $3.5 mil and Zary wants 3 years @ $4.5 mil.

My guess its the other way, Zary and his agent want shorter term, guessing the contract is 2 years. Have a rebound season, etc.
I would also guess this is resolved before training camp

Maybe its 2 years and AAV is the debate, but the Flames should be ok to give up a bit more to get the 2 years. 3-year deal gives Zary more leverage next time.
If the Flames low ball him on a 3-year deal, it will cost them next time around.

So if the Flames just came forward and said 2 years, $3.75. Or say 4 years, $4.25. Would that get it done?
Not to discount hundreds of thousands of dollars for either side as completely insignificant, but surely a compromise with that narrow of a gap should be easy to overcome?

In my humble and very, very biased opinion, Flames should offer sheet Ryker. 4.6 x 5 would be a 2nd round pick. He has the tools to be a top pairing defender that can absolutely be the rock to an elite pairing player like Parekh. Seeing him with either Parekh or Weegar would bring out a Ryker Seattle wished they took more serious when dealing a contract.

Sec214 needs to start a disinformation campaign to upset the repeaters and trolls.

I agree! I love hockey stories from far away places. Reminds me of a book I read about a semi-pro Hungarian goalie who turned to be a bank robber, among other things: Attila Ambrus. I just looked it up, the title:
"Ballad of the Whiskey Robber: A True Story of Bank Heists, Ice Hockey, Transylvanian Pelt Smuggling, Moonlighting Detectives, and Broken Hearts"

Yep. Flames could be waiting for the agent, or vice versa,
I believe I heard on the radio, they are speculated as $1m apart
My guess, they will both give in, some what, and the player is signed before camp

The discussion around Zary has been a lot saner and reasonable than the rest of the discussions in this thread!
Now if we get to August 30th and he's still not signed...

Agree on getting Evans, he’d be a great piece for this team. I thi k Seattle matches that one very easily though.
