Except all he has to do is accept his QA and run to UFA.
I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again, 3 year bridge contracts are just plain stupid, they give the player 100% leverage.

August 8…. Has Dustin Boyd signed yet? I’m getting pretty concerned.

They only do this when they cannot afford to give a long term contract (like Tkachuk) and to placate him they give him a 3-year contract with rising amounts ( eg. 5-7-9). I believe Tkachuk would have held without either an 8 year contract or this type of 3-year contract.
Dumb , yes? But the real tragedy was not being able to give him the 8 year contract.

Contract can't be escalated like they were when Tkachuk signed that deal. So, his QO wouldn't be as easy of a decision as Tkachuk's would have been, unless he does not breakout in the next 3 years.
But I agree that I don't like the 3-year bridge, especially in the Flames situation. Plan is to compete by 2027/28. He will be an RFA right when we plan to complete and same year as Parekh is an RFA.
We need to trade a winger, we have tons of prospects in his range and if his contract isn't a contract that has more value long term, I think we should trade him. Teams wanting to win now would value that bridge deal more than we will.

Tkachuk didn’t want 8 years. He wanted 5.

In a mind-bending way I think I agree with you. As long as my agreement with your assessment isn’t offensive. And I think your post would have been a whole lot clearer with the addition of a cryptic GIF.
But you’re right. If we all took ourselves a little less seriously and made and read posts in good humour, this place would be a lot more fun. And maybe some of our best contributions would be more inclined to continue their fun and insightful posting.

So - any latest rumors around the NHL? There are still paid insiders in North America who should be doing their job so we should be fine. Not sure if the NHL is on an unofficial break though.

As always when someone asks this question, the answer is “yes” but, unfortunately, we all decided in the group chat that we would prefer not to discuss them publicly and instead save them for the private forum. Invite only. Sorry.

I don't get why anyone is surprised with the board eating itself.
1. It's the driest point of summer, and every year there is random and weird snippy infighting around this time.
2. The team is in a distinct funk. Years without the playoffs, declining older players, frankly looking like it might be a tire fire this year too.
3. There's economic malaise right now biting at everyone's nerves too.
4. Has anyone read the news lately? It's enough to make one bug the #### out.
Add this all together in a small community like this and it's a powder keg.

I don’t want them to re-sign Andersson but that thread would be very entertaining if it happens in the next two weeks

The insiders here are better than any insiders on the internet or in the press; regardless of if you believe 100% everything that's being said, the fantasy element of being fed "private" inside information makes them millions of times more fun to engage with and speculate on than whatever Friedman or Seravelli talk about.
Anyways. It's less fun with this place is all snippy with itself. It's like a hive mind experiencing schizophrenia or something.

I personally just ignore any interaction with posters who respond in a rude manner, as well as the obvious trolls. You have this right - this place is a community, and I will be around here for as long as it remains a community. The bullies who are always responding in a disrespectful and often demeaning way, as well as the trolls, can just talk to themselves on the fringes of this community until they either get bored and leave, or finally step over a red line and get banned.
I used to get into some heated debates over the years, but I just stopped a long time ago. Life is too short to waste my time with people who have nothing better to do than work hard at trying to upset someone online. I just ignore posts made by people who are rude - or even who have a well-deserved reputation for it. We get to pick and choose who we respond to. At the end of the day, I just refuse to allow the few bad apples here to discourage me from interacting with the good ones.
I certainly understand Sec's feelings though. I am sure he gets awful tired of being a lightning rod, even though he is never rude or in any way a detriment on this site. The people that normally complain about his posts usually are detriments, which I find funny. Sec is almost like a minesweeper, showing us exactly who isn't worth responding to. I love your tidbits Sec, but I might like your mine-sweeping even more! Sorry you got tired of it - hopefully a break will be enough to come back to being yourself. These worms don't deserve to win, after all.

The itch for any new trade rumors had me go look at good ol' Eklund's site, which if nothing else can at least occasionally stir some discussion...
He said yesterday the Flames have inquired about Evan Rodriguez. Though he also suggested the Canucks are more likely to acquire him. Discuss.

We’re kind of cluttered at forward. Although, Rodrigues can play any position and can move up and down the lineup. Bonus that he’s a RH shot. Probably wouldn’t cost anything at all given Florida’s cap.
I’d say we need to move a forward out to bring him in. Still need the reserve spots open for youth to fight for.

The premise of those rumors is that Florida has to move him to clear cap.
But there is a strong possibility that Tkachuk starts the year on IR which means they won't have to do anything near-term at least.
