Former Flame Ruzicka eyeing NHL comeback
Quote:
Last season, Ružička had 45 points in 65 regular-season games for Spartak and 12 more points in 12 playoff games. Spartak finished third in the KHL’s Western Conference and was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

Good luck, I guess.
He was maddeningly inconsistent and his GAF-meter couldn't match his talents. Maybe substance abuse played a role. Last summer Martin Pospisil has helping him with motivation.

Pospisil might have a future as some type of NHL life coach when his playing days are done.

I mean, if his substance abuse is behind him and his GAF meter is now where it needs to be, he certainly has the talent.

I think there's also a matter of the NHL's Player Assistance Program (to my knowledge he did not enter it). The (then) Coyotes just abruptly terminated his contract. Technically he's still a member of the NHLPA so he'd be entitled to the help.

He always seemed to be eyeing a pro career. Doubt this will be any different.
Good luck to him I suppose.

Honestly, if he had a drug problem and has actually put in the work to get it under control (and can demonstrate that), then I hope he gets another shot.

Had all the tools to be a star, just wouldn't bring it very often. If his head is right, someone might get some incredible value.

I would not mind giving him another shot. I liked him as a person when I spoke with him. I wish him all the best.

Glad his life is back on the rails. He can play up and down the lineup, on any line he wants when he's trying

Star? Not really
Middle of the line up guy at best
Just didn’t show up half the time like Jankowski but Jankowski managed to keep finding jobs

As long as his demons are behind him, this is exactly the type of reclamation project that the Flames should consider. He has the size, skating, skill and IQ. What was missing was the character - the lack of motor + his substance abuse. One got corrected. Can the other one? If so, you have a player here.
He got a taste of the NHL lifestyle, things definitely got away from him and this probably contributed to him getting waived by Calgary. Then things probably escalated further in Arizona, where he published that notorious video. He lost his NHL career over it, and had to go over to the KHL and work at getting his life and career back on track. He seemed to find good success too.
I am all for giving this kid another chance, and he has team Slovakia here to help him out too. Maybe get Big Ern to check up on him now and then as someone he can lean on (and apparently he is willing according to his last interview). Plus he is a center, and while I don't think he ever had 1st line center potential, he had solid 2nd/3rd line center potential. I would definitely take him back and see what he is at the NHL level now that he is clean.
