FWIW I’m still told the Ducks haven’t made McTavish available, however the situation seems to be very odd.

Player likes the team, the city (weather) and would commit long term.
Team however is reluctant to backup the truck and give him the contract he wants.

I’d easily give up any RHD not named Parekh and any other prospect outside of Reschny as I think he’s destined to be the steal of 2025 draft.

This is where I would offer a 1st (VGK) and Rasmus Andersson to grab him. The Ducks can attempt to extend Andersson, and if he doesn't, they flip him at the deadline, especially if they're in a playoff spot. I'd say MM falls within the 1st/2nd/3rd compensation threshold, so technically, they're getting above average price for him (Andersson is worth more than a 2nd and a 3rd).

I'm still a bit baffled at Detroit's ability to convince management and players that they won't suck. Maybe McTavish sees a good supporting cast that he can lead to victory? Obviously, I'm assuming he has some say in where he is going.

Does that beat what the other teams are offering though? Other packages are likely to include recent top picks. The Ducks probably want someone who can contribute sooner than our first could.

The problems with the Flames young assets is that they are good but not top level (Zary or Coronato) or so good they are off the board entirely (Parekh or Wolf). The Flames, otherwise, are really offering a grab bag of assets.

We could easily offer up one of our expendable prospects in the top 15. Maybe even add a 3rd or 4th rounder in another year too. I think the Flames have the assets to overpay a little bit at the opportunity of a potential 1st line center. And if we can do that without giving up Zary, that would be a huge win.

As I’ve reported over the last month or so, the Calgary Flames are looking for a three-year deal with Connor Zary in the $3 million to $3.5 million AAV range. I get the sense that the player’s camp is looking for an AAV in the mid $4 million; this obviously is dependent on the overall term. When all is said and done, my gut tells me that Tyson Foerster’s two-year deal with a $3.75 million AAV will be similar to what Zary ends up with.

If we add McTavish, Zary should be the main piece going back. We have too much now, keeping picks would be the smart move as 2026/27 picks are years away and it gives Conroy time to evaluate what we currently have.
