The ending to tonight's episode might sink the Paramount merger on its own...Amazing
I'm not an avid South Park watcher, I like the specials, its a great show but its not like I watch every episode.
But there is something about Matt and Trey that I find fascinating. As soon as I read that Paramount gave them $1.5B deal...immediately after canning Colbert the first thing that popped into my mind?
Because Matt and Trey have long shown that they shy away from nothing, everything is fair game and they absolutely and unhesitantly will bite the hand that feeds.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
just watched it. Doing this right after a) getting $1.5b from Paramount and b) Paramounts settlement with Trump is ... well, exactly what makes South Park great.
EDIT: just read the Guardian's review and this line is just perfect.
Quote:
Then Jesus (last meaningfully seen on the show doing cocaine with Santa back in 2019) speaks to the residents.
Parker referenced the episode showing Trump’s penis when he shared feedback from network brass: “They were like, ‘We’re gonna blur the penis,’ and we’re like, ‘No, you’re not gonna blur the penis.'” Stone said that the show’s team agreed to add eyes to the penis: “Then it’s a character.”
Amazing

The White House slammed the “fourth-rate” Wednesday night season premiere episode of “South Park,” which took jabs at President Donald Trump and Paramount amid the company’s merger with Skydance, skewering the company over Stephen Colbert’s cancellation and Trump’s Jeffrey Epstein ties.
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told multiple outlets the show “hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention,” accusing the left of “hypocrisy” for previously criticizing “‘South Park’ for what they labeled as ‘offense’ content, but suddenly they are praising the show.”
South Park co-creator Trey Parker had the briefest of responses on Thursday to anger from the White House over the latest season premiere, which showed a naked Donald Trump in bed with Satan.
“We’re terribly sorry,” Parker said, followed by a long, deadpan-comic stare.
It would seem that this recent buzz isn't exactly hurting interest in the show.
From my poor recollection...I don't think it's the right or the left per se who claimed South Park was offensive. Generally it's been some of the specific groups who cried foul when they ended up on an episode, and frankly most if not all of them deserved it.
Have to give Matt and Trey credit, they've been calling balls and stikes for almost 30 years and they're not afraid to call anyone out. If they end up getting cancelled here in the next 12 months ...it pretty much confirms that there will be an Authoritarian USA for the rest of my life time.

The thing is, you can't really cancel them. You can't even cancel Colbert. You can cancel his show, you think that will make him go away? All of these entities are probably way more powerful on their own than they are under the gun of a network. They had to pay them $1.5 billion that they don't have just to stay. Because they can basically go anywhere they want and make bank, or just release it through Patreon or something. They probably laughed when they got offered that cash, knowing it's likely to bankrupt the service, but they don't care. Sure, bankrupt yourself trying to keep control over something you so clearly don't.
Guaranteed when showing this episode to Paramount execs, they were asked to change things and they just say "Air this as is, or we release it for free." Like, do you understand who you're talking to?

I'm guessing Stone and Parker forced a pretty liberal contract as far as creative control goes with Paramount.
The only way I see them getting shut down is if they've signed some kind of exclusivity clause or contract that gives Paramount control of the South Park IP until the promised 50 episodes are complete.

It’s like my friend who intended to start his own company and waited for a buyout from ATCO Gas, took it and went to work for himself. The severance provided startup cash and he doubled his income.

This is how fascist governments start. It won't be long before it is illegal to insult Dear Leader, and comment negatively on any subject they decide. The courts will follow, so no help there. Punishment will rise to public executions to prove they mean it. Matt and Trey will have to leave the country if they want to continue, and even then Trump would use international pressure to silence them.
No, there are no guarantees here. I'm not saying this will happen, just that it is a real possibility given what we have seen and heard.
