I don't think he misled them at any point. I think he really didn't know what he wanted to do until then end, and then felt he could get a deal with one of his preferred teams, including to be closer to his family.
And then that didn't happen and he panicked and took the deal he could get with CBJ, after first circling back to the Flames and learning there was no interest on their end, including because of how pissed of Edwards was.

Lots of miss-steps on all sides. But I also don't think anyone deliberately misled anyone along the way.
Is it really true that Gaudreau went back to the Flames once he didn't get a contract offer from the Flyers or Devils? If so, I still highly doubt that the Flames would tell him to pound sound. We aren't in any position to get on our high horse about anything. Every good player we draft takes off to the US the moment they are eligible to skip town.

The organization treated him well and he screwed us.

Never got the apologists who continued to support him.
I’d bet that close to zero posters here would turn down the opportunity to be a multi-millionaire in South Florida, even if it meant slightly screwing over our old employer in the process. I’ve lived in Calgary for 50 years and would move out of this Arctic wasteland in an instant if I could afford to.

Come on now, Tkachuk could have played it about 50 different ways worse than how it actually went down. We ended up getting a haul despite not having much, if any, leverage.

I don't see the antitrans stuff. I see the part about keeping men out of women's sports though.

I'm curious why you think this? Or perhaps maybe what is it about him that makes you feel like he's a goof? Given you said you don't blame him for exercising his rights and you also think he was upfront with the Flames, I'm just curious what you've caught or seen that makes you dislike him? From what I've seen and heard, he actually seems to be a really nice guy off the ice who is good to everyone at the rink.

This isn't true and strongly suggests you aren't looking for actual discussion.
Let me know if that changes.

More the on-ice stuff. The antics. The stuff he does at the end of a game if he's losing. That's what you get from a guy that rides the line as close as he does. When he was here though I found he would do that stuff and allow it to distract him, and he'd be less effective.
I think he's matured in Florida and understands more how to drive the other team nuts while still being effective himself.
But i don't like the sore loser stuff he does at the end of games.

How many superstar RFAs force their way out from their drafted team?
There's lots of highly skilled young players in all types of markets. Calgary wasn't even a bad one.

He fully applied the leverage he had within the rules, but it was an unloyal selfish move and I dont understand why any Flames fan would continue to support him.

Not even mentioning the apparent politics he supports.

And someone mentioned Tre. Yes Tre greatly mismanaged both our stars and that summer. Two things can be true at once.

I'm starting to think MAGA legitimately thinks they won the four nations.

Gotcha and I would agree that he has matured a lot. None of it is surprising given the time that has gone by from when he was an inexperienced, young kid while with the Flames. It's why teams give young players longer leashes to learn from their mistakes.

I got all sorts of flack for calling out Tkachuk for clearly wanting to live in what he perceived as "freedom" town. His list of preferred destinations was all teams located in states with almost no covid restrictions, with the exception of St. Louis and Colorado (who had just won the cup). It was pretty clear that Tkachuk wanted to help himself.

I guess you can say that at least Tkachuk is honest and up-front about how self-serving he is.
