Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2025 - Round 26 Run Off

Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!

As per usual ...

1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to mid to late August
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

Sticking with Jamieson, but Phillips would have likely been my next choice.

a view from the outside, apologies if previously posted. Bleacher report has the Flames pool at 6th league wide

I'm absolutely not a prospect guru (I greatly appreciate the insights from those on the site that are) but I'm genuinely confused how Phillips is still here.

Was the pick viewed unfavorably or has there been new information in the past few weeks that's caused his stock to fall? I know our prospect pool has gained depth, but are there actually 25+ prospects in the system that we wouldn't trade for a 3rd round pick?

Some negativity around his puck skills ...

And fans in general aren't high on defense first hockey players.

And he's crazy tall and mostly that hasn't worked out for us (except for Klapka)

I understand both camps, the Flames liked him as a 3rd rounder, and I agree with the general consensus that they have been doing a good job at talent evaluation, he's big, young and fills a need (currently and always for big shutdown d)

on the other hand with few exceptions I do feel that even most guys who end up on bottom pairings or in shutdown roles at F have put up some sort of 'counting numbers' in their pre-professional days, I've taken that rightly or wrongly as a proxy of some semblance of puck skills (as you say). having said that Regehr put up 14 points in his draft year as a legit first rounder

anyhow I have Jamieson on the top of the big/shutdown/defensive queue for this reason

This seems reasonable. I think you've got a clump of teams around the same area that you can quibble about exact placement. For me those teams are Calgary, CBJ, Washington, Minny, Anaheim, Philly, Seattle. I have a hard time stacking those 7 - they all have 1 or 2 really high end prospects, and pretty good depth. Just comes down to which prospects one likes more.

Then you have the 3 that stand above: Chicago (though I would almost put them in the group of 7 above, I'm not sure their group is actually better).

Montreal and SJ seem to be a clear tier above the rest.

Eric Jamieson. Racked up a good amount of even strength goals / points. Pushed down the depth chart by a potentially generational Landon Dupont so my guess is he didn’t get first unit PP time. Going the NCAA route next year to a top notch U of Denver program. 6’3”. Back to back 30+ seasons (albeit on very good teams). There’s a lot to like here for a 6th round pick.

He is the last prospect on this list that I think has some degree of top 4 upside.

I think Jamieson has a real shot of being a player. +38 with 36 points last year. To me that shows a defense first player that is capable of moving the play along whenever necessary. I find that those kind of players can be trusted and a player you can trust is a player you can play.
