Speaking of donair pizza, Seniore's Pizza is part of $5 promo that Skip is running right now. They are offering a medium donair pizza for $5. I ordered one for pickup this afternoon and it was an absolute zoo in there. My order was 45 minutes late and there was about 50 people waiting for orders. Good pizza and a great offer but the execution was so off.

Chicken Bacon Ranch and the Veg are their best, imo. Meat Lover’s is decent.
I prefer pepperoni when I’m getting pizza but I agree theirs isn’t anything special so I don’t bother with it there.

Jokes aside, I grabbed a couple slices at Sbarro at the airport with my kids just to see if it was bad as I remember. And it was worse.
There are NO redeeming qualities to that pie. Toppings awful, crust awful, smell awful, cheese awful, price awful. How is that place still in business????

I was craving pizza hut for some reason last week. Used to love it when my buddy worked there and got free triple crowns.
Holy crap was was it gross. Couldn't choke down a single slice. Like a kids play kitchen with the fake pizza slice. It's plastic. I swear the cost cutting in supply chains in food is making it measurably worse. Everything tastes worse. Imagine Boston pizza taste right meow. Rubber cheese.
As an aside dairy in this country is insanely bad. The dairy cartel is such a joke in this country.

Your mom never had a problem choking on meat.

There is lots of good dairy, you just have to find it (most people are lazy) and you have to pay for it (most people are cheep).

There's a local cheese shop that sells some great tasting Canadian cheeses (Les Amis Du Fromage in Vancouver), mostly out of Quebec. Many are not insanely expensive either ($3.00/100 gram).
Canadian milk has a nice creamy taste, that really comes across in many of the cheeses.
That being said, the stuff at the grocery store is absolute garbage and horribly priced. It really affects the ability of pizza places to offer high quality product at cheaper prices.

The butter is problem. US butter is way better. I know that's sacrligious. Just figured butter was a staple but now its a staple on your lips.
Ice cream sucks now too. I'm not convinced even the Villages or Marcus' are buying good dairy. Waxy gross lip balm ice cream.
Its the farmers market only now.
I wouldn;t mind if not for the cartel part.

I'm convinced a large portion of the population actually enjoys that disgusting/flavorless taste and texture, and I'm not talking about flavor preferences. I'm saying they like artificial flavors/textures and certain flavors that some of us think is indication of low quality.
Like hands down loving a McD's cheeseburger over a gourmet burger or black coffee that is just straight bitter ("coffee taste") vs having depth of flavor.

When we lived in Sylvan we used to get cheese here:

Local and good.
Yes grocery store cheese tastes like what I imagine dick cheese tastes like. Fotze do they taste the same?

A great option for butter, when it is available, is the stuff that gets imported from New Zealand at Costco. Buy a dozen or so and freeze it for later because it isn't in stores very often and it sells out fast

This is categorically false. US butter is absolute garbage to bake or make anything with. It has less fat that Canadian butter and doesn't cook or taste right.

A lot of issues with supply in Canada.
For example, a restaurant could never make an economically viable legit Chicago Deep Dish pizza in Canada. You can't mask the crappiness of the cheese, as it's such a thick layer at the bottom. You need to use an ample amount of high quality cheese. So to make it in Canada you're looking at charging $60+ dollars for a smallish pizza to make it worth it, so nobody makes it.
I had Pizza Hut in the USA, and it was just better. The cheese was more abundant and did that melty stretchy thing. In Canada the cheese doesn't even cover the whole bread. Pizza Hut, in Canada, is basically just an oily piece of bread with a few charred toppings on top. The crust tastes like its been recently frozen too.
As far as butter goes, Canada mandates that butter must be at least 80%, butter fat:
https://cdc-ccl.ca/en/node/777
Since there are so few major producers, they all just churn out that minimum standard without any incentive to be more competitive about it. In Europe the standard is 83-85%, and you can find that here, but it's definitely more expensive and a "specialty" product.
There was also the big "butter gate" scandal where a lot of the big producers got caught, despite denying it, using palm oil as feed, resulting in harder and less flavorful butter:

The USA has the same regulations about 80% fat content for butter that Canada does. Cheap butter is cheaper in the USA, so you can use more of it. For the price of cheap Canadian butter, you can get a more "European" style butter in a higher fat range though.
