[QUOTE=Jay Random;9487423]It would have to be on a pretty bad team for him to keep that top-6 job if he only put up 30-40 points a year.
So he will be the next Backlund.
Plays on a bad team or bad team because he plays too much???

Backlund has had two things going for him:
1. He's been absolutely elite defensively and great at all the play-driving metrics, even when it doesn't show up in goals and assists.
2. He's played his whole career on a team that has been chronically short of centres. Even when the Flames had numbers at the position, they didn't have the quality to kick him down to the third line.
It's quite unlikely that Danielson will ever be as good defensively as Backlund, just because Backlund in his prime really was elite at that part of the game.

Backlund playoff games played speaks for itself.
I think playing Backlund ahead of Bennett was a terrible decision....set the team back. You need to play the kid at center again and again. High draft pick should have gotten more chances. Trust your scouts.
Time for the Flames to move forward, change leadership and let the young guys grow with more ice time.

Probably doesn't matter anyway, as I can't see the Wings being a trading partner for Andersson, as he most likely wouldn't sign a contract with them (or I would assume anyway).

I do not think Andersson would agree to any extension with the Red Wings. It would be tough to trade him there.
I believe it was reported at one point he wanted to either play for the Flames, or a contender. I don't see the Red Wings fitting that.

Fair enough. What would you be comfortable going up to? Even at 8.5 per I think he would worth it. It’s hard to find guys with his compete level. And even harder getting those guys in Calgary.

The frustrating thing is that Andersson is the right player at the wrong time. If he were even a couple of years younger, he would be worth signing long-term for pretty big money. But he just doesn't fit the timeline.
Weegar, who is already signed with term, is an excellent role model and mentor for young defencemen. The Flames are going to have to develop their own players and instil that compete level in them.
At one time, Andersson was criticized on this very board for his lack of dedication even in the matter of professional-level fitness. Remember when he used to be called ‘Fatmus Sandwichsson’? Some people thought he would never make it because of that. I'm sure out of the team's stock of young D, there are some who can learn the right competitive attitude, just as Andersson did.

Ramus Andersson got it together. But not everyone manages to do this.
Ryan Howse scored almost 100 goals between two WHL seasons, then came to camp fat, had a terrible AHL season, and then stopped being an athlete a year later. He's now the head coach for a USPHL team and just won a championship.
Losing fat is relatively easy. More commonly, prospects fail to put on sufficient healthy weight and can't play at the pro level. Either way, discipline is necessary.

Fair enough. Couldn't hurt to ask. Nothing significant is going to happen until rosters start to gather for training camp. And there's plenty of other threads for chit chat.

Danielson played on a slightly below average team in Brandon in his draft year. He definitely had more talent around him than Monahan did. He was 41st in points per game. Guy just has never got points at any level, nothing wrong with that, just a fact.

Monohan was a better prospect (and got drafted higher because of it) but to discount the comp completely is odd since neither player clearly had much help around them in their draft year and that effected their numbers. The 67s scored 208 goals in monohan’s draft year. Brampton scored 212 goals in Danielson’s, so pretty comparable offensive teams even if the 67s were an overall worse team and monohan, a better prospect, scored at a higher point per game.
Danielson took a big step up in scoring when he was traded, increasing his production almost 50% to almost 1.5 ppg by playing on a better team. He’s not a player that can’t score in junior.
I don’t necessarily disagree too far with your point. I think he probably projects more as an all around 40-50 point, high end middle six centre, but his scoring stats from his time on a bad junior team shouldn’t be seen as limiting his upside. He has talent and could very well blossom into a top line c.
To sandman’s point, it’s pretty unlikely Calgary can trade Andersson for danielson, but that’s the type of high end prospect that would make me giddy to get in an Andersson return.

This is historically the thread where people chit chat. This isn’t new.

To further this a little bit more, Cole Reschny scored at around a 1.24 ppg in Victoria up to January (pretty close to Danielson’s 1.14 in his draft year). But he scored at around 1.75 ppg in the last 29 games after Victoria brought in some high end talent that could play with him.
From my viewings of the player, he played the same game and had the same exciting skill set before and after January. But after January, he had more guys that could finish his plays so he put up more points.
Supporting talent can have a pretty significant impact on how many points a prospect puts up, and Danielson showed that it’s more likely the lack of talent around him that limited his production.

Similarly, Danielson went from 1 ppg to 1.46ppg after being traded to the winter Hawks.
Hes a great prospect. Had an excellent rookie AHL season and plays a 2 way game. I think we'd have to add to Andersson to sniff him.
If Andersson holds too much of a grudge against detroit that's a bummer.

New 3 way Dallas, Calgary, Anaheim proposal
To Stars: Andersson, Coleman (both double retained), Zary
To Ducks: Robertson, Bourque
To Flames: McTavish, Zellweger
Stars could give Zary a decent deal with the double retained on Andersson and Coleman. Ducks get a young C back in addition to getting Robertson and are part of the retention. Flames get a top young C and solid young LHD basically gets their summer goals.
I know it won’t happen but I see some value for all 3 parties.
