Danielson plays an extremely projectable game with good size+skating, amazing hands, and a strong 200 foot game, and Conroy would be doing incredibly well by getting a prospect of this level in a trade for Rasmus.

Well a lot of his draft class was playing because Danielson was one of the oldest players in his draft class. If he was born a couple weeks earlier he would have been in the previous draft class.
He is 5 months younger than Kasper in his own organization. Kasper was producing in the NHL.

To me that is inconsequential.
The adjustment and transition to playing pro hockey is immensely difficult at that age whether you are a September birthdate or a March birthdate. Also keep in mind that the leading scorer in grand rapids had just 47 points.
Danielsson had a great year, projects incredibly well, and would comfortably be a top three prospect here at the moment. He's a valuable piece, and likely isn't available anyhow. Fans should be thrilled if Andersson was able to bring back a player of that level. That's all I am saying.

Brzustewicz and Gridin have better numbers. He probably slides in between Potter and Honzek.

Probably too much from NJ but Nemec, Mercer and a 2nd for Kadri??? I know it is a moot point since I see no way a deal is made in the near future for Kadri but the Devils still have pieces we were longing for during the Markstrom rumors

My guess would be Jack Hughes going to LW temporarily. Maybe until Kadri regresses to a 3C role.

We both know that production is only a very small piece of the puzzle in projecting and evaluating prospects.
Danielson was just voted the consensus #2 prospect by their fanbase in a pool that includes guys like Carter Bear and Brandsegg-Nygard.

If you're looking to fill the centre position on a scoring line, production is a very big piece of the puzzle.

Danielson could be a 30-40 point a year top 6 center. One thing is for sure, if he somehow became a point producer after not having been one at any other level he would be one heck of anomaly. Guys who don’t put up big numbers in Junior rarely all of the sudden put up big numbers in the NHL.

Guy didn't have much talent around him on the Wheat Kings. His PPG ticked up considerably when he was traded to a more talented Winterhawks' team.
Monohan didn't put up big numbers in Junior either and he turned out alright.

It would have to be on a pretty bad team for him to keep that top-6 job if he only put up 30-40 points a year.

One of the most frequent complaints about Monahan on CP was that he was not good enough to be a proper #1 centre.

Ha... people are going to complain, but if it weren't for his injuries, he'd probably still be a top 10 centre today... and hopefully that's a number 1 (he put up more than a point per game last year with his busted up body).

It's probably more common than you think.
Danielson for example had a very reminiscent D+0 and D+1 as a guy like Mark Scheifele.
1.22 pts/g vs 1.19 pts/g
He's a guy who I think projects quite safely as a 40 point middle six center with the potential for quite a bit more.

While I don't think there are any legs to the Kadri 'Rumour", I do think the only reason teams don't get the work in early is because they need to accumulate cap space. A lot of deadline deals don't end up working out for a team because the acquisitions don't get oriented quickly enough and build enough chemistry with their new team, plus all the off-ice distractions with the family and living situations.
If I am a GM, and I have the cap room on a team that is likely looking like a contender, I would want the bulk of my adds as soon as possible (preferably the off-season), especially when i am adding to the guts. I would save deadline day just for the depth - peripheral upgrades/straight depth in case of injuries. The cap is what stops it of course, but that's the logic I think.

I don’t think Danielson will be a #1 center. But I do think he has the potential to develop into Backlund type center in the NHL which would be awesome to get. It’s so tough to trade for a center prospect that’s projected to be a #1 centre. I can’t remember the last time that happened. So I’m looking for guys with the potential to be impact players with their 200 foot game if not their offensive game.

I agree with all of your posts on Danielson, HighLifeMan- thanks for holding the fort.
Different prospects develop at different rates, and in different ways. I love Danielson personally, and I have no doubt that he will be a solid NHLer for years to come. I think he has the talent to be a top-6 C in the show, but would it be so bad if he ended up being a 6’2” Backlund? There are plenty of ways to be a difference-maker. Just my opinion.

Draft Pick

I’m probably in the minority, but would love to see Rasmus extended. Guy bleeds Flames, plays with an edge. Holds his own in both ends. Give him the Kadri contract! (If he would sign it).
I don’t see us or Vegas being bad enough to get us in the mckenna sweepstakes anyways, and he’s gonna leave a huge hole on the backend.

Sean Monahan put up 78 points in 58 games in his draft year on a horrific 67’s team. By horrific I mean worst team in the OHL by a country mile. He was 15th in points per game that year
Danielson played on a slightly below average team in Brandon in his draft year. He definitely had more talent around him than Monahan did. He was 41st in points per game. Guy just has never got points at any level, nothing wrong with that, just a fact.

At present, it seems like most of the young centres in the Flames' system are being touted as having that potential – might be a Backlund, won't be a #1. How many more do they need?

If he would sign the Kadri contract, he'd be signed already.
Plus is just extends our mushy middle window for a number of years.
