I’d be interested in Michael Brandsegg-Nygård from Detroit in a trade.

Danielson is a weird guy. He has a lot of really great attributes, but just has struggled to produce as much as one would think he would. This was an issue in junior, and now so far in pro. Says to me that perhaps the hockey sense isn't there.

Detroit adds to Danielson if that's all we're getting for Andersson. I am finding him to be highly overrated.

40 points in the AHL as a 19 year old center is fantastic production.

Danielson was a top 10 pick which is likely skewing some of the value but even then I believe it was considered a bit of a reach and he was a player we were discussing for 16 possibly.

Danielson came from the CHL so last year was his 20 year old season.
40 points is a fine rookie campaign, it's just not production you move Andersson++ for, as was suggested by one poster.
A few of the prospect pundits out there still like him but also expressed concern about his play maybe not translating to the NHL in its current state.

To Calgary: Nate Danielson

Nope, in my opinion Detroit needs to add to Danielson to get Raz. Danielson and a 1st or 2nd and 3rd at minimum.

This was just his D+2 season where the vast majority of his draft class was still playing junior hockey. It amazes me the expectations that fans have for these kids while making the transition to the AHL at such a young age. We see it here all the time with Honzek and those who have all but thrown his future out the window because of his AHL production.
Danielson plays an extremely projectable game with good size+skating, amazing hands, and a strong 200 foot game, and Conroy would be doing incredibly well by getting a prospect of this level in a trade for Rasmus.

Fantastic production?
He had 0.55 PPG. Honzek had 0.40 PPG (after struggling with an injury) and half the people on this board call him a bust.
Danielson's numbers are better than Honzek's, but they don't justify the valuations given in this thread. And I wouldn't call them fantastic, I would call them good.

When was the last time a top 10 pick played junior in his D+2 season? End of the day Danielson was where most top 10 picks are either in the NHL, NCAA, or pro.

Do you think he will end up being a top 6 center or a 3rd line center?

We actually agree here. I think he'd be an excellent return because centers are so valuable. I also think there's no way Stevie Y does it.
So my commens about him don't mean I don't think that would be a great return. I do. Just that the sum of the parts never seem to come together with him as much as they should.

I’d be happy with him as the main piece back in an Andersson trade but not for Andersson++

It is interesting to consider the types of center prospects that I hope Conroy can target in trades for some of the vets in the next year or so.
I like Danielson as a prospect still but I do see the concerns about his production being valid. It’s a similar case for Helenius out of Buffalo - would really like it if he could be acquired but I don’t think that’s likely either because Andersson would likely never waive to go there and I doubt Buffalo would trade him.
I’m looking for the best possible prospect center that could be acquired in a trade using some combination of pieces like Andersson (50% retained), Coleman (50% retained), 2026 2nd round pick, 2027 2nd round pick. You’re likely not going to get any center that projects to be an 90 point player in the NHL in their prime (eg. Catton) so my hope is to get a center with a really strong defensive game that projects to play center in the NHL. That’s guys like Danielson or Helenius. Still really tough to acquire though even with quality assets.
My thinking is if Calgary can’t or won’t pick in the top 5 of the next few drafts then maybe the way forward is to build a team with depth and defensive skill in the centre positions if they can’t build it with elite offensive centres. Assuming Backlund and Kadri are gone or not core pieces by the time the flames are rebuilt, the flames could have rebuilt the centre depth with some combination of Reschny, Frost, Danielson, Zary and Potter. Who knows which of those players develop into top 3 centres but they all seem to have similar attributes: good hockey IQ and a strong 200 foot game. A team with 3 centers that are really tough to play against could work. It’s not the typical setup for a contender but it could be a coach’s dream to never worry about who they match up their centres against. I guess the idea is the equivalent of having a centre depth of Horvat/Danault/Cirelli/Backlund in their primes. The offensive creativity and play driving may be more sourced from the defence (Parekh, Mews, Brz) and potentially the wings with more drafting.

Nazem Kadri is rumored to be back on the trade block. With NHL trade rumors swirling once again, the Calgary Flames forward is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams, including the New Jersey Devils.

THN used to be great hockey journalism. Seems like its become drive by click bait.

With Hughes and Hischier not sure why the Devils would want to pay a premium for a $7M player to be their third line C?

Hughes can’t stay healthy and Kadri brings that “Bennett” factor that every contender wants now.

Why would you take on an older contract early or before the season starts? A Kadri deal just seems like a fit at the deadline if we aren't making the playoffs and a team needs solid 2C for the playoffs.

I don’t think there’s anything to that rumour, but it would be because he’s signed long term, so “for the playoffs” is irrelevant when you’ve got that contract on the books for years after. Might as well gain all the benefits throughout the season, too.
