Varland has 5 more years of control and averages 98.1mph on his fastball.
Ty France is a pretty boring add, but they needed a RH bat.

So it's Roden that drew the short straw. Felt like one of the outfielders had to go.

All in all a pretty underwhelming deadline and they gave up a few pretty good young arms. Considering the adds that the other AL teams did, I am not sure they did enough to improve the team.

France obviously a salary dump for the Twins but also likely means Santander is not going to play this season. Provides that extra pop.

If Rojas turns into a guy who's as good as Varland, good for the Twins. I'd rather have a bullpen that can win a pennant this year.

Hate to break it probably won't happen deadline adds rarely go anywhere. How many teams in playoffs?

Just my thoughts

Well I was hoping mostly for two late inning high leverage relievers and although I didn't think it would happen I wanted the Jays to find a top of the rotation starter. Well they did it. Sucks to see prospects go, especially ones you like, but these were good additions.

Not sure the point of Ty France, but he's had some good years so maybe the Jays think they can fix him quick or something.

What do you mean? Varland is a nasty major league pitcher and is under team control until 2030. Rojas could be a pumpkin...like most prospects.

Underwhelming?

They added two guys who were slotted in as 8th inning set up relievers with their old teams and both throw high 90's gas, one of them is controlled for 5.5 years. Plus they got an actual legit shot at an ace starter. Bieber is already up to almost 60 pitches in rehab.

Not really underwhelming, pretty much right on the nose for what they needed. Getting a potential ace was almost a miracle.

Dominguez + Varland with Rodriguez, Little, Garcia (hopefully), and Hoffman is a pretty solid bullpen.

I don't know anything about Seranthony or Bieber off the field but Varland and Ty France are known as elite clubhouse guys. Glad to see they didn't mess around with the vibes. If anything they may get even better.

Yeah, and don't forget Fisher who has been one of our best relievers this season.

Hoffman
Dominguez
Varland
Rodriguez
Little
Fisher

Then fill out the last two spots with Garcia, Sandlin, Nance and Fluharty.

Real solid on paper.

Probably a 6 man rotation too I bet.

Gausman
Berrios
Bassitt
Lauer
Scherzer
Bieber

Both Varland and Dominguez mostly pitched in the 6th and 7th innings on their old teams.

Bieber has pitched 12 innings the last two seasons and in 2023 his K's were way down and his ERA was up. I am hopeful, but he is 3 years removed from looking like an ace. I think we need to temper expectations for him to be a 4/5 guy in the rotation.

Bieber, Dominguez and France are all gone after this season. Bieber wasn't planning on picking up his option with Cleveland, that's one of the reasons they were looking to move him.

I am still hopeful about this team this year, but I think the rest of the teams in the AL improved more than the Jays did.

Dominguez was described as an outstanding clubhouse guy by the Orioles manager. He seemed legit popular with Orioles players after he was traded.

I do like the adds, really like the roll of the dice on Bieber but for me with the amount of really good closers/late inning guys available it's disappointing to see them not get one. Prices were high but I wouldn't want to go into the playoffs with Hoffman as my guy in that role.

Depth is nice sure but I think in the playoffs when the games get tight you want that guy, or better yet that 1-2 punch. Felt like they could get it and they didn't. Hope i'm wrong, but it feels like a missed opportunity.

You can't have a name like Seranthony and not be a rad dude.

This is actually a really solid deadline by the Jays imho. I think going into it I romanticized how electric the 2015 deadline was and what that did for the team and wanted to replicate that. But this team is in a vastly different position than that team so the needs were quite different. Can't wait to see them play ball again tomorrow. Especially because they don't play the stinking Rays or Orioles for 6 weeks.
