You can still find the height and weight results from the 2014 Combine—LWOS has them.

Reschny: 5'10.75", 180 lbs

I don’t think height alone defines size. It’s a combination of height and weight, and based on that, Reschny looks like he’ll be big enough.

Aside from the issue of reach, which is a mainly a defensive tool for a centre, weight or heft is a bigger asset than height. Mackinnon is a modest 6'0" but he's a bull. Crosby has a bit of that in him too.

I don't think this kid get's the respect he deserves based on what he's done.

His 1.60 pts/g (playoffs included) beat out all CHL draft eligible players this year outside of Misa and Martone (that's ahead of Desnoyers, Martin, O'Brien, McQueen, Kindel, Bear, Nesbitt, and Cootes who all went ahead of him).

Reschny was involved in 38.8% of all goals Victoria scored when he was in the lineup this year - to put that into perspective Michael Misa was involved in 39.9% of the total goals that Saginaw scored with him in the lineup this season, and Porter Martone was involved in 37.4% of the total goals that Brampton scored with him in the lineup this season.

He was 1st on Canada in u17 scoring
He was 1st on Canada in u18 Hlinka scoring
He was 1st on Canada at the u20 summer showcase in scoring
He was 3rd in points/g at the u18 despite getting to the event late and missing two blowout games (17 goals scored) vs SVK and DEN to begin the tournament

I suspect we were very lucky to get a player of his level at 18 in the draft..

I'm hopeful he is a Nick Suzuki or Braden Point-level player. He was the top C available after Misa & Desnoyer IMO, and I am grateful we got him.

He's also a little on the younger side for the draft as an April birthday.

If he's 6'1" instead of 5'11" he's a top 10 pick, Flames were fortunate that this was a draft where Florida's success had NHL GMs prioritizing size again.

The best chance Calgary has to become a championship team I think is to build through the draft and so that means when trades are made they should focus on picks picks picks. They’ve done a good job of it for the most part. Cost controlled and leverage your strength.

Reschny, Potter, Stockselius are a great encore to drafting Parekh, Gridin, Basha, Battaglia and Mews the year prior.

If Suniev, Honzek and Morin start pushing for NHL duty this year you are starting to see the pipeline constantly begin to chew out solid NHL talent for once.

In the past it was maybe 1-2 players one year and none the next. The last 3 drafts have the potential to produce 10-12 impact NHL talents and that isn't something this franchise has really ever done in the last 20 years. Coming from a team that has rarely come close to that kind of drafting consistency, it is huge and doesn't seem to be something that is going to stop now.

On a related note, we have a ton of quality NHL prospects now; these last three drafts have been just bonkers. We're probably at a point where we could give up a really dang good prospect or two alongside an NHLers to acquire a young, impact NHL player (if we wanted to go that route).

I am pretty optimistic about what this means for the team 2-5 years out. Seems like the fanbase is pretty patient too given how used we are to mediocrity. Would love to see a generational focus on scoring though.
