Duuuudes I am PUMPED.

We got Shane fricking Bieber. He's a damn ace pitcher in his prime if he's healthy again.

I find baseball prospects the hardest to project. Part of that is I simply know way less about them than hockey, but it also seems like it's just way harder to predict. I remember when Travis Snider was the sure thing blue chip next star for the Jays.

Add to fact major league teams want our talent obviously.

Atkins is appealing to other gms

Always a bit of a risk with trading prospects sure but I mean the reality is also the Jays have not been good at drafting and developing under Atkins. They've never really traded anyone away of real value either, Moreno probably the exception here but there was some logic there. Pretty much anyone they've dealt hasn't panned out.

With prospects that can change quickly, but up until now the Jays have not been very good at identifying and developing talent in the minors. Baseball is harder than most sports to project and they've had some bad injury luck, but there is a pretty long track record built up here of the Jays not drafting and developing well.

Yeah for sure, and I think having so many levels of minor leagues makes it hard too. You can really mess a guy up by promoting him too fast. I think that was an issue for Snider.

Bieber is a front of the rotation arm if he is right. Sounds like he has looked great in his 4 rehab starts, he is scheduled to make another rehab start on Sunday.

Khal Stephen has moved up through the system pretty quick but doesn't have the upside of some the other arms in the system.

This is the year to take risks and try go on a run.

Mason Miller to SD. Would have been nice to get him but SD gave up a haul including the #3 prospect in baseball to get Miller and J.P. Sears.

Blue jays probably can't match that package even if they wanted to.

Probably have to give up Nimmala and Yesavage, plus a couple more of their top 5 prospects.

I always think of how the Phillies would not part with Kyle Drabek and that killed them getting Halladay at the deadline. That offseason they gave in and dealt him. They could have had him for two shots instead of 1 before that extension they signed him to kicked in.

Even when the Jays got Berrios, Austin Martin seemed like a steep price...today you wouldn't hesitate. But you can get burned the other way too. I do think that because of the size of the farm systems and the time that teams invest that development really can close the gap on a lot of similar talents.

Kyle Finnegan to Detroit. The list of bullpen arms keeps getting shorter.

Wonder if it's Bednar or bust for the Jays. Might want the control he offers.

Relievers are so volatile, but Bednar has been massacring batters for the last few months. And he's been elite for 4 of the last 5 years.

He'd be such a massive addition. I'll be a little let down if they don't add another high end reliever today. They don't seem to like to spend assets on acquiring relievers though, which is understandable.

to a certain extent yes, but it's at the same time they've had a mostly bad bullpen during the Atkins era.

I just don't see how they can justify heading into the stretch drive and potential postseason with this bullpen.

You get 13 pitchers.

For the playoffs they'd have:

Bieber
Berrios
Gauzmam
Bassit
Lauer
Scherzer
-at least 2 of these guys will pitch out of the pen/piggyback, which is a lot of innings

Then for the 7 remaining spots:

Rodriguez
Sandlin
Garcia
Dominguez
Hoffman
Little

With one spot left for Fischer/Fluharty/Nance to fight for

That isn't perfect and they need one more arm for sure to hedge against Sandlin/Garcia not being available. But the only pitchers on those firat 2 lists with ERA above the league average (4.09) are Bassitt, Scherzer, and Hoffman.

Scherzer has gotten better after rehab so if they get a closer to push Hoffman down to less leverage, and only pitch Bassitt at home I think they're in excellent shape.

Camilo Doval, Pete Fairbanks and Griffin Jax all controllable bullpen arms still on the market. Jax will be the most expensive, Fairbanks probably will cost a in division premium. That's leaves Doval as a prime target.
