I'm so glad the Jays snuck out a win. Would have been a long day and half otherwise. But perfect timing for a bad series. Shows that relying on replacement level players to continue to punch above their weight class was not sustainable. Varsho, Springer, and Kirk will all be coming back in the next week which will help. But if the Jays need to package some of their glut of outfielders for some big game fishing at the deadline I'm all for it.
|
I'm not sure I have that takeaway at all TBH.
The position player depth showed pretty well in this series considering they have all of Varsho, Springer, Kirk, Santander, and Gimenez being injured, they still scored 19 runs in a 4 game set which is above their season average (4.69 runs per game).
My take is they really need to shore up the bullpen, and in a perfect world get a true ACE, because that's what's going to hold this team back.

They also lost 5 runs to HRs being pulled back and left a ton of people on base
The hitting wasn’t the issue
The bullpen and spot starter were beyond atrocious

Game 1 Bassitt got caved in, not a surprise as Baltimore can hit and he has sucked on the road all year.
Game 2 a pair of AAA pitchers got caved in with Lucas and Estrada.
Game 3 they lost by a run 3-2
Game 4 they won
Would have been nice to get a split, but not the end of the world considering they pretty much punted the early game yesterday by having to start AAA fodder because of a rain delay caused double header.
Run differential sure took a ##### kicking though, the last few days lol

Do. not.

The Jays need to use their bullets to trade for pitching help. I am fine with adding a bat, but I wouldn't spend a lot of assets to get it done.

I would be surprised if they moved Loperfido. I can see Leo Jimenez, Orelvis Martinez, or Jonatan Clase getting moved. Will Wagner and Alan Roden probably fall in the group too, though they still have options left after this year. Jimenez, Martinez and Clase will be out of options next year.

Really depends on the trade, my guess they will move a position player and other stuff for an upgrade

I could see moving Loperfido as part of a payment for a good starter with control. Eg I mentioned Kris Bubic and Joe Ryan above - I'd be willing to deal Loperfido plus two pretty good prospects for either of them. Immediately becomes the #1 starter, and pushes Lauer down to being a high quality long man which improves the bullpen significantly as well.
If they're just getting another rental reliever I wouldn't want to give up Loperfido.

That's fair, I just think they look to move other guys before Loperfido. Bubic is on the IL and it looks like the Royals aren't selling so I don't see him being available.

With the draft being about a month before the trade deadline have teams traded players immediately after drafting them or can they not?

Clase off the board because he's a degenerate
Duran off the board
Helsley off the board
Hopefully the Jays can snag Bednar.

Fair points - I had suggested Bubic/Ryan before Bubic was injured and the Royals extended Lugo, so it seemed more possible then.
Obviously a top starter with control will cost. I'm not sure if anyone like that is even available.

Bieber could be an interesting pick up.
The guy is only 30 and was a legit ace, but coming off TJS. Apparently already pitching rehab starts.

In a perfect world, three pitchers (starter, long reliever and closer) with the long reliever being the most important.
An experienced versatile infielder (return of IKF?) and maybe another OF. Would be nice if those guys could hit too.
Kwan?

Haha. The Jays do not need to add 5 players.
