Also tonight, Carson Branstine loses a heartbreaker to Maria Sakkari in three sets. Carson played an excellent match tonight almost forcing a 3rd set tie-break.

Hopefully Felix and Gaby get one of the two wildcard spots remaining...

Think it's gonna be hard for Felix and Gaby to get in.

Badosa and Draper snuck in under the wire which bumped Keys/Tiafoe to a wildcard

who is left? I thought Osaka/Krygios would get one but maybe Nick is too toxic. Siniakova is the #1 doubles player, maybe they don't want her in, she might win! Sabalenka is still not in.,,, Paolini/Musetti not in either.

Emma Navarro eliminates Rebecca Marino 6-1 6-2 but I don't think the score reflects that Rebecca played quite well, it's just that Emma was rock solid today and making Rebecca hit that one extra ball.

Yeah, you could be right GS, but they did win the bronze medal in mixed doubles a year ago, that might carry some sway with the organizers.

Quick turnaround for Leylah from DC to Montreal and thus it's no surprise that she loses to Maya Joint 6-4 6-1. Also, Bianca forced to withdraw due to that ankle injury she suffered in her opening round match, maybe all the idiots on social media calling her a drama queen can shut the hell up.

/But I don't that will happen.

Genie won her first round match. Bencic next.

Victoria Mboko getting the prime time treatment as she takes on Sofia Kenin this evening. Tough match, but Victoria certainly has the ability to pull off the upset.

Shapo should have won that match in straight sets and ends up losing the match in straight sets.

Victoria Mboko looking really good thus far tonight as she takes the opening set 6-2 over Sofia Kenin.

Edit: Victoria is into round 3 following a 6-2 6-3 win over Sofia Kenin. Incredible tennis tonight from Victoria and on a collision course with Coco Gauff.

https://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/...-schedule-loss

Quote:
MONTREAL -- Leylah Fernandez criticized the schedule at the National Bank Open after the Canadian lost in the first round of her home tournament Tuesday, two days after winning the title in Washington.

She was routed 6-4, 6-1 by Australian Maya Joint in just one hour, 15 minutes. Fernandez, the No. 24-ranked player, won her fourth career WTA title Sunday in Washington and was hoping for additional rest before returning to the court in Montreal.

Fernandez said she received "a lot of promises" that she would play during Tuesday's night session, giving her more time to recover between the two tournaments, but learned Sunday while traveling that that wouldn't be the case.

"I did not receive that," she said. "That hurt me because I was very looking forward to be playing at night, but I guess it's a little bit political issues at that point."

Tournament organizers: It sure woold be great if a Canadian could win this tourney (Canadian male or female)

Also tournament organizers: Let's force our top Canadian female player who just came off her biggest tournament win to play earlier than what was promised to her.

To be fair, that's the latest they could have put Leylah. Can't have 2nd round matches being played before first round matches. It would have put her (or her opponent) even further behind if she had won. It was a mistaken promise from the start. And she wouldn't have played any better 6 hours later.

Have never heard of this Canadian athlete previously.
Interesting history and great story moving forward.
I need to watch her play. She looks like she could have a physicality to her game that can help a lot. Go Mboko!

the Mboko serve is honestly better than Shapo's or Felix's.

She has no problem hitting 190 km/hour on the radar gun and her service motion is poetry in motion. I think hard courts are going to be her best surface due to how flat she hits the ball as it just zips through the court. Still trying to determine whether I like her forehand or backhand better, I'm leaning towards the backhand though, she hit an open stance backhand down the line for a winner last night that Novak Djokovic would give a huge thumbs-up in appreciation.

Naomi Osaka winning matches and playing some great tennis after dumping the French rat as her coach puts a big smile on my face.
