At 8.8 it is now tied for the 6th most powerful earthquake since measurements began.

Japan is preparing for 3-4 meters.

Reports of some Tsunami's up to 13 feet in the Kamchatka region in Russia.

The Ring of Fire has been pretty active recently. Planet may be reminding us silly humans who the real boss is here.

Yes, it would be a huge risk to not take a powerful quake from Kamchatka seriously.

You aren't kidding. Rainier has been going bonkers the last month or so.

Heading up there on Thursday for a 3 night camping trip. Hopefully it stays calm. Latest reports say just a few "events" per hour now down from 41 per hour on the 8th, so should be ok.

It hit mild warning. Jokes aside, is this gonna be a thing or typical hysteria. Like tsunami in Maui I’m seeing? I seem to no longer trust any news.

Forecast is for something like 10 feet. Which isn’t horrifying, but not good either.

I can’t really tell until someone translates that size of wave to actual consequence

Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka has apparently been going bonkers for the past couple of weeks. Which isn't too unusual. It's one of the most active volcanoes in the world, but the last couple of weeks have been particularly noteworthy and at the moment is spewing tonnes of ash into the atmosphere.

So volcano in Kamchatka has been going bonkers and now there's a mega-quake nearby. And Rainier has recently been going bonkers too..?

Update on the downgrade:

Looks like it was all pretty minor. They don't have much choice but to issue the warnings very seriously. Hopefully people don't get complacent.
