I wonder if he would make the jump to CHL rather than back to the USHL before going NCAA?
How many NHLers play their D+1 year in the USHL?

The main reason most players chose the USHL over CHL was to maintain NCAA eligibility. With this no longer being the case, expect the majority of players with NHL aspirations to ditch the USHL for the CHL.
Apparently the Flint Firebirds own Wyttenbach and Potter's CHL rights
That being said, Wyttenbach said some very complimentary things about the Sioux Falls coach in his post draft interviews, so I expect him to stick with Sioux Falls.

He played in two tourneys in 23/24 totaling 10 games, last year he was injured for 16 games, hopefully he can stay healthy and get back on track in development.

Good use of a 5th round pick. The production is under rated. Let's see if he can produce at NCAA.

Probably not many, but Pospisil is one.

Nothing really more to add, but have to say that was a helluva interview - hard not to pull for the kid - he seems intensely dedicated - the Coronato connection is awesome.

Wyttenbach has decided to go to the NCAA a year earlier than originally planned before he was drafted.

I'm a big fan of this kid, we'll see how it plays out but it could be a steal of a pick. Good skill level, nice shot. I've only seen interviews and some hilights but I like what I see. Could turn into a top 6/top 9 winger eventually.

And he seems appreciative and proud that the Flames selected him. I am rooting for this kid.

This is my dark horse for a surprise Middle 6er, sorta like Mangiapane. Just seems like he's got some untapped potential. Add in his relationship with Coronato, and he could really boom

Look at his USHL scoring for u19 (he actually comes up as u18) and prorate for full season puts him in top 4 of scoring. Pretty decent.

New strategy of drafting kids that can create offense
Much better than drafting size that can’t score

Also better than not drafting at all.

I do worry a bit that the Flames are becoming too much the draft darlings focusing on NHLe and maybe over looking how many of these young players are transferable based on height issues etc.me
Love me some skill ... but are they overdoing it?

That's been the argument against the Canes, who over the years drafted gobs of these guys. The irony is that despite this preference, they missed Stankoven, drafting Aleksi Heimosalmi at 44, ahead of him going at 47. So I guess the thing is you have to pick the right skilled small guy.
And the other move Carolina has made has been to trade down constantly. I suspect their models tell them, that statistically more picks is better often than 1 higher pick.
But it's left them with a constant issue of lacking elite high end talent.
Overall I like the focus on skill for sure, but Carolina is an interesting case study in perhaps taking it too far.

You don’t lack elite high end talent by trading down, you lack elite top end talent by refusing to finish bottom 5.

Nobody refuses to finish bottom 5. That’s not the way hockey works, never has been.
