Chemgear posted an article about youth that commited a violent crime, you expanded the context to criticize his apparent interest in the broader "murder, death, and violence" topic (which is irrespective of the 'youth' element), chemgear replied to your more broad remarks (doing away with the 'youth' context as well), and Cappy posted that article with undeserved smugness when their own article says pretty plainly that violent crime is still near the peaks Calgary has seen over the period being shown.

Maybe Cappy just needs to take a couple workshops from you on forum mic-drops, because this one was a fail.

Not sure what you’re missing here, the question was asked what it had to do with Canadian politics, chemgear himself answered it was issues surrounding bail. The offender was allegedly on bail for a property crime (which you suggested nobody gives a crap about anyway).

You’re the one who made it about violent crime, and got on Cappy for not bringing up violent crime in Calgary (this happened in Toronto FYI) because apparently that’s what you wanted to talk about despite not even the OP claiming it was about violent crime. He didn’t even mention violent crime in his response.

If you want to make it specifically about violent crime in Calgary, then we better go all the way and look at the stats, which suggest people 12-17 charged with violent crime (specifically the kind we see here) is not, in fact, at its peak. If you want to be smug because Cappy didn’t get as granular as you wanted, you should have gotten granular and known your stuff. I think that’s fair.

The graph in the article is certainly telling. Compared to early-mid 2000's, we are doing pretty well.

Chemgear is pretty active on here talking about crime and bail. Its something the Conservatives have pushed for years and are still pushing.

Generally, the crime severity index is falling after the spike started in 2023. All crime data is showing decent reductions - except violent crime, as you have shown. Pepsi was correct in his response to the post regarding bail and the lesser crimes. My point was merely showing current news showing crime severity and certain crimes are down (in alberta, substantially so).

Sorry for posting it. Crime down. ho hum.

All the Premiers are calling on Carney to introduce his bail reform bill today. Part of their ongoing calls to the Federal government. It was one of his election campaign promises after all.

Canada's premiers spent the final day of their summit discussing how to tackle violent crime, bail reform and health care.

Provincial and territorial leaders call on government to introduce bail reform bill

Earlier Wednesday the premiers entered their final day of talks calling on Carney to make good on his promise to introduce legislation in the fall sitting of Parliament that will make it harder for repeat violent offenders to get bail.

Holt told reporters that Canada's premiers have discussed bail reform in depth and they are all on the same page.

During the election campaign, Carney proposed changes to the bail system that would require repeat offenders, charged with crimes like home invasions, violent car theft or human trafficking, to prove they deserve bail before it is awarded. Right now, prosecutors have to prove that denying someone bail is justified.

Carney also pledged to toughen sentencing guidelines to allow for consecutive sentences for violent car theft, car theft involving criminal gangs and serious and violent offences.

Family of mother killed in Kelowna, B.C., calls for changes to justice system in letter to PM

Premier Eby said he delivered the letter from Bailey McCourt's family to the prime minister on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Eby said he has yet to receive an update from the prime minister regarding the letter, adding, "I certainly do hope to see a response in the form of criminal justice reform in the fall, particularly."

The leaders entered their final day of talks on Wednesday, calling on Carney to make good on his promise to introduce legislation in the fall sitting of Parliament that will make it harder for repeat violent offenders to get bail.

Shane McCourt, Bailey's father, told CBC News that the justice system was "extremely flawed," and he believed that the government was being too lax on violent offenders.

"This system failed her," McCourt said of his slain daughter. "She reached out many times, and our system, the laws that are out there now, failed to protect her.

"And now our family's paying the price.

Canada could have had a piece of this market but we pissed away our opportunity.

Quote:
Shares of U.S. liquefied natural gas developers surged in premarket trading on Monday, after the European Union pledged to purchase $750 billion worth of the super-cooled fuel over the next three years as part of a sweeping trade pact.

NextDecade, Venture Global, and Cheniere Energy jumped between 7% and 8.8%, with the deal bolstering the prospects for American LNG exporters as they expand to meet growing demand for cleaner-burning fuels.

The EU, seeking to phase out its dependence on Russian gas, committed to buying $250 billion annually in U.S. LNG as part of the framework trade agreement unveiled on Sunday.

Speaking of our former PM, looks like he’s dating Katy Perry. Which I think is such an amazing couple. I can only imagine the self-aggrandizing dinner conversations.

“Justin do you know what its like to be in space, to be an astronaut?”

“Katy, I imagine its like stopping your countries economy to prevent total global destruction”

At same time: “Thank God the world has us”

That is so cringe (the made up conversation attempt)...

And good for him, politicians and former politicians private lives are their own and shouldn't be scrutinized.

Hey now, he's a World Series Champion, NLCS MVP, and 2x all star. You really should think about him, he's still playing at 40 with the Cubs!

I’m sure it’s hard letting go of something that was such a significant part of your identity. You can Goo Gone the stickers off your truck, but you can’t Goo Gone your personality.

The EU has committed to buying Canadian LNG? Canada has committed to supplying LNG to the EU?

LOL, who cares who buys it? Obviously west coast terminals serving Asian customers make far more sense for Canada given where gas is located. There's a reason the US isn't building west coast terminals and that's because it makes no economic sense, just like east coast terminals in Canada make little sense.

"This market" could have meant the LNG export market as a whole. Maybe you should have been more specific?

Should i point out you have brought up former PM Harper (someone who hasn't been a politician in a decade) in name far more in recent months than JT and as much as current PM Carney?

No room for JT as Harper already lives in your mind forever rent free
