A former US Army Special Forces officer revealed that he resigned from his role at the Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) after witnessing the shelling of aid-seeking civilians in the besieged enclave.

Speaking to the BBC in an interview on Friday, Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Aguilar said he had never seen such "brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population".

"I’ve never witnessed that in all the places I’ve been deployed to war, until I was in Gaza at the hands of the [Israeli forces] and US contractors," he said.

"Without question, I witnessed war crimes by the Israeli Defense Forces, without a doubt. Using artillery rounds, mortar rounds, firing tank rounds into unarmed civilians is a war crime."

I think what we are witnessing globally is just the simple fact that the handful or dozen men in charge just do whatever they want to do and everybody else is effectively powerless. No amount of protest, media attention, outrage or political change in powerful G7 countries will change anything.

The plan is the plan and that is the way it is for these conflicts in the middle east and Russia/Ukraine and many others.

I never used to be this cynical but I am just starting to see things more clearly than I used to. The level of killing in this Gaza War is something that is probably unthinkable as we don't see it to the degree that others on the ground are. There is no reason for this to continue except that this is what Israel wants and will get. It's clearly evident what is going on but we keep being fed nonsense by our leaders and useless organizations across the world.

The Russia/Ukraine war could be over tomorrow morning but it won't be. The plan is the plan and despite political change in all these countries, nothing has actually changed and it won't change. It doesn't matter if it's Trudeau, Carney or Pierre. Canada will do exactly the same garbage which is just be useless and pretend we matter on the global stage.

It doesn't matter who was US President Trump/Biden/ Biden/Harris and now Trump. The US policies for the above wars is effectively the same crap. It won't change. The plan is the plan.

Look at the Arab/Muslim world, where is the forceful change they could enact to wake up the west from what is happening to their fellow people who share similar faiths?? Crickets

Frankly, I feel people are more outraged at having to see pictures and videos from Gaza of starving and dying children that have started pouring in, than they are at the systemic genocide. It was always going to end up like this by Israel design being emboldened by US support and now we are seeing the consequences. Will it be enough to actually act?

As long as Israel has the full and unwavering support of America, nothing will change. They will continue as is, because they need nothing else. Why care about public opinion around the world when the US politicians will carry their water and the billions in aid and funding will continue?

With that, Israel has nothing to lose. Who cares if a few countries around the world write some “strongly” worded condemnations? Why would that change their behaviour when they have so much to gain by eradicating the Palestinians?

I agree with curves here - it’s awful and hopeless to know that we are literally useless to stop this. There are only a handful of people in the US that have the power to stop this, and they have a vested interest in Israel’s success, so what can anyone do?
