Indeed, the person responsible for the act was Irish.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert..._Army_officer)
Buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia but it doesn't seem like he was ever in Canada during his lifetime. The act was committed in revenge for burning down York though, so it was done in the name of Canada.
There were Canadians serving under him, but he was the mastermind.

Do we even know what the deal is? Has Japan commented on it? Sounds like American swill still have to pay tariffs on Japanese goods, so yay?

Trump said it was a deal so...
The only Japanese comment I saw was about how they will be looking at the language in it to see where it goes...so no deal yet? Its not like trump lies about things...oh wait, yes it is.
I did find this posted;
A tweet on X from Spencer Hakimian (@SpencerHakimian):
Toyota is up +8% on the news of a 15% tariff.
Why?
It's simple.
Ford, GM, Tesla, and all the other American manufacturers are going to by paying 50% more for their steel, 50% more for their copper, 25% more for their Canadian production, 25% more for their Mexican production, and 55% on their Chinese production.
Toyota only has to pay 15% more and they're done with all the shenanigans.
Ford has to pay much more than that. A lot more in fact.
We've given a Japanese care company an advantage over American care companies.
All in hope of bringing auto jobs back to America.

Kind of like the deal with Vietnam that he said they made, that doesn't really have anything concrete to support that a deal was actually made. It was more just a concept of a deal.

Sounds like negotiations between the U.S. and Canada aren't going the way that Trump wants, which of course means that the Canadians are rightfully playing hardball and that we're not simply bending over and taking it up the ass just for the sake of getting a deal done at any cost.
Also, Trump saying they're not focusing on Canada is hilarious. We're only one of their top 3 trading partners along with China and Mexico, lol. What a f'n clown.

Quote:
"We haven't really had a lot of luck with Canada," Trump told reporters Friday outside the White House in response to a question about the state of tariff talks with U.S. trading partners.
"I think Canada could be one where there's just a tariff, not really a negotiation," he said, before departing on a trip to Scotland. It's the first time Trump has publicly spoken about the state of talks with Canada in nearly two weeks.
|
Quote:
Trump made his comments after a reporter asked what he expects between now and next Friday, the date set for imposing new or higher tariffs on many of the U.S.'s biggest trading partners.
"Aug. 1 is going to come and we will have most of our deals finished, if not all," Trump said. He spoke of progress in talks with Australia, the European Union and China, but singled out Canada for criticism.
"We don't have a deal with Canada; we haven't been focused on them," Trump said.
Trump's comments are the latest nail in the coffin of Canada's prospects for a deal by the U.S. president's deadline.
On Thursday, during a visit to Washington, Canada's top trade negotiators downplayed the likelihood they'll get an agreement by Aug. 1.
"We're going to continue to work toward the Aug. 1 deadline," said Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc. "But all of these deadlines are with the understanding that we'll take the time necessary to get the best deal that we think is in the interest of the Canadian economy and Canadian workers."

Sounds like a good deal, their cars are tariffed at 15% which is currently lower than NA made cars are, all they have to do is let the US import cars and rice which is fine because Japanese people won't buy them anyways.
Japan didn't screw up, Trump did. But who knows, Japan and US aren't even reporting the same deal yet.
