I think his reporting effectively ended these players careers and the public pressure from the reporting got the crown to re-open the case and prosecute. An argument can be made.

Suing people is not that difficult. I bet the players lawyer's have looked into this. What comes out of it? Not sure. More well-versed lawyers on the board can advise.

I have no doubt it affected public perception, at least among those with poor media literacy. He took facts and interpreted in a biased way to draw conclusions. I don't think you can sue someone for that though.

I have no doubt that he is fighting the good fight. Whether or not what happened in this case was criminal, it exposed a lot of problems with hockey culture and Hockey Canada.

Basically no one won aside from a few lawyers. Not the players. Not EM. Not the crown.

If Rick ever said "These guys sexually assaulted a woman" then yeah there is a case to be made.
But, he's not an idiot, he's a professional journalist.
Everything I've seen has been him reporting facts.

Suff like:
A complaint was filed.
Hockey Canada investigated.
Hockey Canada paid a settlement.
Allegations have been made.

Those aren't opinions, they aren't up for dispute. You absolutely cannot sue someone for reporting facts.
