2007 British Open
Still early in the round but some numbers have been posted. Woods is sitting at 2 under and quite a few of the top golfers in the world are having decent rounds. Holes 15, 16, 17, 18 look like brutal finishing holes. If you can somehow manage to get a birdie that would be a huge bonus I think. The greens today are pretty soft which is helping the golfers. The one golfer I was a bit surprised to see was Ames, he has been playing pretty well this season but with an awful start at 10 over he has a lot of work to do tomorrow. Lets see if Woods can make it 3 Opens in a row here.

I think Tiger Woods will make it three in a row. I love watching him play The Open. He can carry bunkers that everyone else has to lay up to.

Not only that, he has an amazing way of getting out of the kind of trouble that kills everyone else. It's those shots that I love to watch.

Its hard to bet against Woods, but you have to wonder about the weather and the trouble it could cause him. He looked good today, but an 80 tomorrow is not out of the question if the weather is bad enough!

Yeah the weather can always screw them over, but if it affects Tiger Woods like that what is it going to do to the rest of the field. It's pretty remarkable how Woods always seems to contend at these majors. If he doesn't win, he's usually in the hunt somewhere. I don't remember Nicklaus or Palmer very well as their hay day was before my time, but I can't imagine that they were in every major on Sunday with a legitimate shot to win. With the very occasional exception Tiger Woods seems to find himself in this position.
I see Cabrera had a good opening round. That would be pretty cool if he could win this event too. I could see the rest of the golf field taking up smoking and excessive eating to try and pattern themselves after him.

Looks like Sergio will have the lead after the first round with his 6 under par. He looked incredibly confident with his putter today which helped a lot. The only knock on this player was his putter, he has all the skills to compete every week but his putter would let him down. Today using the belly putter he made a lot of clutch putts. I'm hoping Tiger can play well again tomorrow. Tiger sinking that 80 foot putt was insane and a great read with the right speed.

Unbeleivably, Nicklaus who won 18 majors.....finished 2nd in majors 19 more times.
Thats why he is always considered the greatest ever....not only did he win a bundle, he was ALWAYS close in the big ones.

Weir with another solid day is currently tied for 3rd.

Yeah so far Weirs 68 is the best round of the day. He just missed birdie on 18 and his bunker shot on 18 nearly went in too. He got on a nice roll after two early bogeys and played really well. Hopefully he can build off of that tommorrow.

Well Sergio held onto the lead, while Weir made a charge and Tiger had a disappointing day. His opening tee shot was horrible for Tiger standards and he never really recovered. He came back with a birdie on the second but his round was filled with wild shots. His last hole pretty much summed up his day, good tee shot but catches bad bounce then hits it into the sand. Tomorrow should be interesting which should separate the contenders and the pretenders with the weather conditions being a factor tomorrow. I expect the scoring average to be quite higher than these first two days of play.

Couse didn't play too badly today. Steve Stricker comes out of nowhere with a course record 64 to find himself currently in second place. Weir so far is -1 which is good enough to currently put him tied for 3rd place. A lot of guys who were par or 1 over made runs today and there is a log jam at -3. If Sergio can close out today at his current score I think he'll have to come back to the field tommorrow to make this much of a race. Garcia has been pretty solid so far with a round of 3 under to put him at -9.

they made carnoustie far too easy this time around, i realise it was out of hand in '99, but -9 after 3 rounds is a bit much.

wow, i have to give it to that golf course, it makes for unbelievable finishes. Harrington and Garcia are on their way to a four hole playoff after making 6 and 5 on #18 respectively. both finishing at -7 after 72 holes.
