I just really like that this draft seemed like Calgary adopted the Dallas/Carolina method of taking the highest potential upside players with their first round picks. I wanted Calgary to take Johnston and Stankoven in those drafts simply because they had high upside. That’s what the Reschny and Potter picks feel like to me.

This is a very popular viewpoint among us fans, but I think it's also interesting that both DAL and CAR, despite the success of having great pipelines of talent, are also 2 teams that seem to consistently underperform in the playoffs, due to a lack of the FLA grit factor.
Not saying it is wrong, just an observation.

Considering that Dallas has made the conference final three years in a row and only won their division in one of those years, I'm not sure I'd agree they've underperformed in the playoffs.

I would. They were considered among the top favourites to win it all, each of the last 2 years, and got trounced twice, looking weak and meek, both times.
Carolina has been similar - great in the regular season, great in the early rounds, but when the big boys get serious, they're getting trounced.

Love that we drafted him; now let’s develop him in conjunction with his ncaa coaches.
Every team gets draft picks; not every team develops them.

The one thing I take issue with re: Carolina and drafting is that while they always seem to garner rave reviews from various public models and online scouts after seemingly every draft, they actually have a relatively poor track record of success over the last decade. Lots of small wingers and defencemen with high NHLe who don't come even close to the show. They've had good picks but not nearly as much success as other teams.

It's hard to win a Stanley cup or even advance to the CF. Plenty of great regular season teams have not had a lot of Stanley Cup success. Look at all the great Blues teams decades back that never got to even a cup final. Capitals looked like they would never get over the hump. Those talented Sharks teams that could never win a cup. Building a really good team is only half the battle as the other half is winning in the playoffs which at times involves some luck and good fortune like say the Oilers having a first round bye four seasons in a row facing a mediocre Kings team.
