42-41-83 today with a bunch of mistakes. Could've gone a lot lower! Back to it tomorrow.

I walk 95% of my rounds, even at my old age. For me it's great exercise. The tough part is the start of the season where my legs hurt as I'm getting to the last few holes. I found over time that disappeared as my legs got in game shape.
The only problem I have is with the heat. I walked yesterday in the +31 degree heat and my body was feeling it. I wear a Tilley hat to keep the sun off my head and it was soaked when I finished. Plus I went through 2 large bottles of iced water.

For me I definitely feel like the heat plays a big part ( and maybe the beer.) I play hockey in the winter and start riding my bike to the office before the golf season starts but when I'm walking a course in the summer heat it kills me.

43-48-91 for me at Gorge Vale in Victoria.
The back 9 just gave me nothing. Hitting the ball well but caught every bad break possible.
Our annual Mountain Tour tournament is this weekend.
Friday 2 man team match play at Olympic View.
Saturday singles match play at Cordova Bay.
Sunday 4 man scramble at Bear Mountain.
Raising money for Victoria Hospice with 64 awesome gentleman. One of my favorite weekends of the year.

Brutal quick 9 for me yesterday with a 52. Lots of greens in reg but absolutely brutal putting which has been the case for the last 1.5yrs since I got my new putter. I went with an Inesis high MOI putter and they discontinued it for the same reason I hate it, its heavy af so even though direction is really good, the weight is really difficult to control.
I played a very short course and on 3 separate par 4s I drove it within 15y of the pin and bogeyed every single one lol.

46-43 in the wind and rain today. Not bad all things considered.
Last six 9’s are 45-40-42-41-46-43. Seems like I may be figuring things out.

Anyone been down to Houston to play? Planning a trip in late February with some friends and looking for any recommendations.
Been doing google and YouTube searching and have a list of courses I'm interested in... but if any of the CP braintrust has any experience, id love to hear it. Sadly we can only play 4...
Memorial Park
High Meadow Ranch Golf
Gus Wortham Golf Course
Tour 18 Golf
Golf Club of Houston
Cypresswood Golf Club
The Wilderness
BlackHorse Golf Club
Hermann Park Golf Course

Paid $750USD for myself and two kids to golf here. Man I suck. Turns out you get worse by playing two rounds a year and aging and worrying your chest will split open and heart will spill out.
Had Qi10 rentals but felt like I was hitting with a shovel. I am sure I am weaker but skyed the ball far too much. Chunking it, is way better than the sky.

My quest to break 90 is still ongoing but I had my best back 9 to date yesterday.
Shot a 52 on the front 9, just terrible golf - brutal tee and approach shots. Only 2 - 3 putts though so that was a positive.
Then I proceeded to shoot a 42 on the back 9. Ended up with 1 triple, but had 2 birdies in 5 GIRs. The other guys I golf with also played awesome and shot 41s, so it was a great round for everyone which made it a ton of fun.

Haven't picked up a club in 6 weeks, played an early round and weirdly enough, kinda striping my irons and solid with wedges as well. More greens than I have probably hit in a round all year... bad putting and mediocre driving led to a "meh" score, but it's nice to know once you've kind of got your swing / move solidly in place that it'll more or less stay that way. I've never felt as consistent as I do currently.

I can't remember a July being as wet as it has been. It's definitely cut into the number of rounds I've played this summer.

Weirdly nice end to winter though. I’ve been golfing since February.
Already hit more rounds than last year.

Yep I have matched last year’s total already with 7-8 more July rounds planned.
Playing in club championships Friday-Sunday! First time in that kind of environment. Should be fun.

I normally get in close to 90+ rounds for summer. Won't happen this year if the wet weather continues. My personal record is 102 rounds during Covid when you couldn't do anything else. Also, can't think of better way to spend my retirement

Club championships are both fun and nerve wracking. A few years ago I was the leader after the first round in my age and handicap category. Sunday was different story as my nerves got the best of me and I cratered badly.

I played in the Carstairs Open on the weekend... first competition outside of a scramble I've been in in over a decade. With my current index I was placed in the 3rd flight... proceeded to fire a season worst 98 on my opening round. Couldn't sink a putt, rinsed 3 balls, lost a ball in the trees... absolutely nothing went right. Was in 12th out of 20 in my flight after round 1.
Came back on sunday and shot an 84, with only 2 bad holes (triple with an unplayable lie on the first hole) and a 3 putt double. Other than that play pretty solid golf. Was one off the gross lead in the flight after the 2nd round, and ended up winning the low net for 3rd flight. Basically won my entry back.
This game is so stupid... same course, vastly different conditions, completely different outcome. I hate and love the game. If you haven't played Carstairs, I recommend it.. the course was in amazing shape, and is challenging enough for a small town municipal course.

98-84 and you won your flight? What's your handicap?

Hahahah... I said 3rd flight, currently a 15.5. Looking at the scores no one played particularly well. After the 98 I didn't deserve to win anything .

Haha yeah I'm just surprised no other 15 handicaps were able to string two 90's together and beat that lol.
