What was the deal exactly? Trading 8M in cap next year must have got an insane return.

Mis clicked my vote so it's a good thing I was going to defend my yes vote.
He wouldn't have been allowed to make the offers if the cap was moved around correctly as he wouldn't have had the cap space.
While it sucks and it's an honest mistake, I don't think an honest mistake should let you get around rules.
Edit- I say this as someone who had no offers in on batch 2 but does have offers in on batch 3 which could be affected by another GM entering bidding.

Site says Toronto is almost 22 million over the cap. How could they sign free agents anyway?

He gave me $6M this year for $8M next year. Oversight on my part but I would've thought I had until next offseason to get that Cheese for that season in order. All good either way. Sorry for the drama!

This was the deal for the 8M.
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
- 2027 2nd Round Draft Choice (tor)
Terms: Toronto owes Philadelphia $8M before 2026-27 season.
It wasn't the deal that put them over the top for next year. They then sent another 4.45M to Calgary for 3M this year, and another 6.5M to CBJ for 4M this year.

The site is doing the weird thing where for some reason it's showing the Cheese traded for next year instead of this year.
I don't know why it does that sometimes, but it fixes itself.

I vote cancel as I feel that trade is illegal and should be reversed. This is how it’s handled in any league I’m in. They can revise the trade but it will be too late for batch 2.
Jiri shouldn’t have to police us all imo

I would allow the signings to stand. It was a simple mistake and I’m sure he will learn from it and not do it again.

Woah woah woah...let's hold the bus for a second.
First: we can only send cap once in a deal. Cap returning next year being listed in a condition has always been the way cap trades went here. I sent or received multiple trades this summer to comply with similar cap conditions owed from last season.
So why are we saying the trade "wasn't properly processed"?? The tone of the thread is very off putting
Toronto being 950k over next year is just that...next year. Between now and then they could gain 950k from a trade and be compliant.
UFA bidding rules say: You MUST have cap space for the first year CPHL value of any offer...", but with no mention of next year so I'm not sure why they would be penalized now.

I think if he can get ~1M next year within the next 24 hours I don't see the problem.

I'd benefit from the signings being invalid, as I had the next highest bid on Moore. So I'll hold off voting for now
But I will say the amounts of 26-27 cheese that was moved here are insane once again. I don't doubt Quigz17 and his abilities to make it work, he has done so in the past ... but if, for some reason, he were to leave the league, the next GM would be in a tough spot.

why wouldn't you just send two separate deals?

I'm very ok with doing that, but I've never done it before in any other transaction that had future cap.
Just trying to establish a concrete SOP here without trying to suggest "if teams are properly looking after their business this stuff doesn't happen"

I always send cap for cap deals in two separate trades. It guarantees it is processed on the site and does not have an annoying special condition all year. That is how it while be done imo

interesting. I've had other GMs send it to me in two separate deals and I've done so as well, I don't think I've had a deal with future cap put as a condition in a while. Not having a go at you or anything, just seems there isn't a consensus way of sending future cap right now.

I've always done this. Keeps conditions clean and easier to deal with. I'm not sure why you'd do it through conditions.
If the issue is next yr's cap, I think its fine.

Because it wasn't processed.
You have to send them in 2 deals. That's it.
You can only send cap deals for this year and the next year. But once we roll over all deals should be processed so it's properly tracked. And that's what I asked GMs to do when I posted that other thread.
You can only send 18M in cap in any one year. That's the rule that was broken.
