I don't know about overreacting, I think in most other sports one of your best ever players saying they want their biggest rival to win a cup would be torches and pitchfork territory. I do understand why he wouldn't care that much but I also ####ing hate fairweather people and value loyalty immensely.

I doubt Theo Fleury gives a crap about the Calgary Flames. Loob does, and maybe Tim Hunter(and Peplinksi). But Newy spent more time on other teams, won more cups on other teams (and swept Edmonton on the way to Dallas’ win). He hasn’t been a Flame for 30 years and I suspect he’s far more a Dallas Star than a Calgary Flames in his own mind, given he was the GM.

You were named Forever A Flame. Part of the deal is unwavering disdain for everything Edmonton.

Knock it off with this crap Nieuwy.

Hatred is what makes sports fun. If we cheer for our rivals, then what is the goddam ####ing point.

Well, Dallas should hate the Oilers too.

One of the 21st century's greatest mysteries.

If the Flames drafted McDavid, would half the country and every one at SN turn into Flames fans?

It's hard to imagine.

At least the Flames arent dripping with a pompous, entitled attitude from top to bottom. The grossest thing all these casual bandwagon jumpers have done is reward a scummy team that did nothing to earn the talent that has dragged it to relevance outside of being inept for years. Rewarding that with attention seems wrong on many levels.

They should've downplayed everything McDavid until he left. Instead they made them even more entitled.

I can't even conceptualize this as I can't wrap my head around a hypothetical universe where the Flames actually get nice things.

The only really viable criticism of McDavid himself, leaving aside annoyances with the way other people talk about him or how he's covered, etc, and just focusing on his own characteristics, is that he is sometimes over the top in his attempt to get the refs to make calls that benefit him and his team.

As far as criticisms of hockey players go for things they do while playing hockey, that particular complaint is basically the least objectionable thing you can object to. Lots of top tier players have had the same allegation made against them, not without cause. It's not like he plays dangerously or takes cheap shots or anything of that sort.

Everyone should.

Players are weird though. You'd think lots would hate McDavid because he's overhyped. But they do it too.

I wouldn't be surprised if McDavid doesn't win a cup until his 3rd team. Life's funny like that.

A Perry-esque situation of being on the losing side with multiple teams would be funny though, you have to admit.
