It's too bad the Tigers are having a good season because if not Skubal would be available and he's perfect for what this team needs.

Jays certainly need an ace . I wonder if they go all in on DeGrom . He can unite with Max !

If you're paying a big prospect price for a starter I think it makes sense to get someone with term. But paying $38/$37MM the next two years for a guy who will be 38 and 39 seems pretty risky to me. He's been great this year so it's a definite win-now move. But I'm not sure about the $75MM the next two year PLUS a high price in prospects.

He’s the only ace available though .
Everyone else is kind of the same level as the 3 guys we have

Any team that needs multiple relievers and starters, I think competing for a World Series is a real long shot. I'd sooner keep the cupboard more or less full or add pieces with term and team control if they're sending major prospect capital in trades.

I think someone like a Kris Bubic (KC) or Joe Ryan (MIN) is likely to be available at the deadline. Get a year or two of arb control for someone whose stats are getting better, is in their 20s, and makes $3MM this year. More like the Berrios trade in terms of making the team better in the future as well. Aren't quite as dominant as DeGrom this year, but Bubic's 2.38 ERA is only slightly above deGrom's 2.32 (and with Bubic's +1 inning pitched the workload is similar). If you're paying big prospect capital I'd like to get better the next few years as well, which is a big question mark for deGrom given his age/price tag.

I would also take those 2 but the odds they are traded is actually fairly low - I think only on a massive overpay , something like 2 of our top 4 spects + for either.
Every year you see guys like that floated in case a team is desperate.

But how often is the AL east this weak? It seems 90% of years there is two elite MLB teams in the AL east and a wildcard spot is your only chance of making the playoffs. This is a really rare combo of the Jays suddenly being dominant AND other teams in the AL east sucking.
Like Jiri said, we lose Bo after this season. This is an extrenely unique opportunity on a roster build hat has been mostly very underwhelming the last 7 or 8 years. Push the damn chips in and get a couple relievers a bat and hopefully another strong pitcher.

At least Rogers and the front office don't seem to care about payroll. Don't know if they'll ever get in the the Dodgers or Yankees stratosphere but they've already lit a bunch of money on fire last offseason with Santanader and Gimenez. So I wouldn't be shocked if they went after a Degrom or other pricey veteran to get over the hump. It's a weird feeling.

The issue is the AL East isn't that weak. It looks weak but the teams are all beating the #### out of one another and keep win totals low.

Having Grisham double with 2 outs was the best defense you could ask for. Just take the bat out of Judge's hand completely.

Would love to get Ryan but given his contract I think the cost would be huge, If the Padres fall out I would love to get Canadian boy Pivetta

That was an incredible inning by the Jays bats. 2-3-4 setting the table and scoring runs. The bottom of the order just grinding and putting so much pressure on Rodon and the Defense until they finally gave in. Amazing stuff.

Hell of a job getting Judge. But walking the leadoff guy is always an issue in tight games.
