You need rougher, harder, more manly hands for me to really be able to fantasize about you gently caressing my cheek; the rough callouses of your hands scratching my beard and my breath skipping like my heart as I get lost in your eyes.

Yes, but you can still get heirloom tomatoes.

Okay, so the thing you have to realize is that back in the day, they didn't have ####ing heirloom tomatoes at the grocery store year round. They had fresh tomatoes in August and that WAS IT. You have some imagined scenario in your head that in the 70s grocery stores there were these tomatoes in February. And those grocery stores didn't sell heirloom tomatoes. You have no idea the rabbit hole that are tomato cultivars, but it was most likely Early Girl and Beefsteak that they sold and that was it.

I ####ing remember when fresh blueberries were available in July and that was that.

Often people that think they can distinguish tastes and flavors, are exposed in blind testing.

AI Overview
While people often believe they can distinguish between different tastes in blind testing, studies have shown that they often cannot accurately identify subtle differences, even when confident in their ability. This is particularly true when comparing products with minor variations, like different types of milk or wines, or when external factors like price or branding are involved.

Many people cannot reliably distinguish between Coca-Cola and Pepsi in blind taste tests, although there's a difference in taste. While studies show a preference for one or the other, especially when branded, the ability to consistently identify the specific brand in a blind setting is not always present.

While sommeliers are often lauded for their ability to identify wines through blind tasting, research suggests that even experts can struggle with this skill and that factors like experience and bias can significantly influence their perceptions. Blind tasting is a valuable tool for improving wine evaluation skills and reducing bias, but it's not a foolproof method for identifying wines with absolute certainty.

While it's often assumed that taste perception is consistent, some people struggle to differentiate between tomato varieties in blind taste tests. This can be due to a variety of factors, including individual differences in taste bud sensitivity, olfactory perception, and even personal preferences. Additionally, some studies suggest that the specific chemical compounds and volatile aromas that contribute to tomato flavor can be reduced or altered in commercially grown tomatoes, making it harder to distinguish them.

Apparently NoTable decided to convert itself into a steakhouse. Why? Who knows. Will it work? I doubt it. Very strange for an established place like that to completely alter the type of restaurant they are.

Speaking of gear grinders, I still wish we had the good #### from Japan, not the crappy Chinese ones.

Agreed, but the Chinese ones seem to have improved over the years. Or maybe I've just gotten used to them.

That's unfortunate. My wife and I recently rediscovered NoTable recently and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we get 1/2 cow every year so get our fill of beef at home, we rarely go out for steak now (no pun intended).

Didn't it get cancelled because the owner assaulted his staff? They had the best chicken! and it's only 5 mins from my house.

Last Christmas I found the Japanese ones at Amaranth. I seem to remember them not being much more, and were still absolutely delicious. The Peru ones you can get sometimes are pretty good as well, better than China.

I completely stopped with the China ones. I had watched a show at some point that showed the pollution some were grown in downwind from factories. Basically little cancer balls. Not worth it. I'm sure they all aren't like that, but how are we to know? Can't imagine we get sent the best ones.

However, according to Chef Michael Noble, the decision to rebrand was driven by Calgary’s rapidly evolving dining scene.

I didn't realize they changed but it has been about a year since my last visit. I would guess they saw an opening in the high end steakhouse market in the NW and decided it was a good business opportunity. We only have The Keg along with Nick's and neither of those are really high end places, in my opinion.

It doesn't mean anything, that's just nonsense. "Next level" means "change your restaurant concept?"

I will say brunch and lunch still seem more or less as before. I wonder if this is a thing where they determined people didn't want to pay "above Earls" prices for a quality sit-down dinner without a theme of some sort attached to it. Either way I will try it eventually it's just... there are already good steakhouses and I liked NoTable as a less "niche" thing.
