I really wish they would have put these super tall towers more in the middle downtown. The skyline's going to look weird from a lot of angles when these are done.

If you only compare it against finished buildings, it would be the 4th tallest in Canada.

Ok yeah. Wiki lists buildings and structures differently. CN tower does not count as a building by the definition I used.

Just more incentive to push past 1000' when the next one is built in the CBD.

I think it’s fantastic. The new arena along with the BMO centre will be the catalysts for continued urban renewal in the area for years to come.
It amazes me how the arena naysayers would have been perfectly satisfied with the loss of the Flames and no inner city growth.

These projects are a defining moment in the history of our city.

I also think it is a bit weird to have such tall buildings in that area. However, I don’t think you can get much taller than Brookfield downtown, as those would potentially block sunlight on the river.

Think you would be able to pull off that height by the parking lots nearby the courthouse. (Wildhorse tent)

I suppose the further south you go, the taller it could be, that is true. Just saying the shade factor is part of the process.

In this country, the politics of sprawl are waaaaay messier than I think any of you want to admit. When you get right down to it, the divide isn’t really left vs. right -- it’s one word:
Parenthood.
Once kids enter the picture, people overwhelmingly shift -- irrespective of their political ideology -- toward the single family detached house; the Holy Grail of suburbia. They want a fenced yard, extra bedrooms for grandma to visit, and quiet streets without any riff-raff. I know some people who are left-leaning to a degree that it's kind of annoying to spend too much time with them, but the second they popped out a kid, it was time to find a place in the up-and-coming community of Timbuktu, best accessed by 22X... by way of sheer willpower to drive that bloody far.

Three bedroom attached anything is not common.
Also condo fees are insane these days.

I know both of those points pretty intimately, yeah, my condo fees will likely be between $1,200 and $1,600 a month based on the two places we've short-listed in our hunt for a downtown place to buy.

Oh, the SkyscraperPage Calgary diagram now has rough versions of the Stampede Station towers on it. So you can see how the height looks compared to our current buildings.https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=109542493 |
